2020/21 Robin Olsen

I don't think Olsen could have saved it dw. I just know that TheBig's stance is that any goal from outside the box is the keepers fault, so was trying to highlight that.
I don't think everyone should be saved. But I also think having the keeper who concedes the most from that area is an objectively bad thing.

It’s too early to make a final judgement but to date I’ve not been wow’d with Olsen’s performances, Newcastle was probably his best to.

Early on got away with a few dicey moments, but the knock on effect of the poor kicking was Keane and Mina not passing back to the Keeper to distribute or force the game further upfield. Pickford kicks it out for a throw 25% of the time in situations like that, but I’d prefer to have that and re-group the midfield instead of what happened today knocking the majority into midfield, few passes United had positions for a dangerous attack. Another one when Coleman was running back, Pickford would have been there to collect the ball no issue, Olsen stayed on his 6 yard box and Coleman had to slide to avoid the corner, unfortunately it curled out for a corner.

I’m 100% sure I saw Roma fans saying similar before we signed him on loan, he’s a decent shot stopper, drops a clanger, loses confidence and isn’t great with his feet.

Few more games and then the final decision can be made, but he was a last minute deal when the Romero deal collapsed so it’s not like I was expecting Buffon V2 to walk through the door.

What is clear is we play better at the back with Pickford, having an extra man at the back who can use his feet is like having a 12th man on the pitch these days.

Yes to all of that. Pickfords biggest problem is his height. It always has been and always will be. You'd be looking at a really good goalkeeper if you had Pickford with Olsens frame.

Neither of the 2 will be starting next year though I'd imagine.

Pickford is taller than Peter Shilton.

He and Lossl are two backup keepers we should never have brought in.

We have Virginia whose flopped at Reading and had a run out (or two?) In the league cup.

Totally pointless to have 3 backup keepers.

Why extend Virginia to 2024 but bring in two keepers ahead of him?

Weird.

I mean, you're just picking an example of a brilliant goalkeeper who is slightly smaller. But the general trend is that the best goalkeepers, especially in the modern era, are at least 6'3".

Yes in the modern era they usually are, but historically keepers weren't particularly tall and the goals are the same size.

Celemence and Shilton were both smaller than Pickford. Neville Southall is the same height. It was never an issue for him.

If the knives are out for him already after yesterday I’d hate to see it in here after he actually performs like Pickford for a game.
Agree. I thought he played well. Made some key saves, was calm. Let in a very good finish from a world class striker after the defence was exposed, then a 1 on 1 when we were pushing for an equaliser.

*feels like I'm not fitting in with the frothing negativity of this site after a loss. Are we becoming just like RAWK?

I think Everton Twitter and online in general has been a slightly different version of RAWK for years now personally.

Agree with all of the above; made some crucial saves when we were level and honestly had no chance with either of the two goals. The save he made as well when it was 0-1 was also top drawer.

Its a shame - our on the whole rational balanced fan base is one of the things we were always superior to the rs with. Would hate to lose that.

Calm down lids
