2020/21 Robin Olsen

The shot goes through the defenders legs. Most of the time they're usually goals when on target. It just caught him out.

While I do think your points are fair...he did feel to a lot of people that he was more calm and commanding. There were no flapping at corners, last minute diving out at players, or general panic that Pickford provides.

Arguably Olsen is maybe not the long term answer. But he's out done Pickford in the squad so...
It's poor positioning for a relatively weak shot that's not in the corner of the goal. If it's Pickford, he get's crucified for it.

He should be keeper yes. But I just don't want most on here to overhype it. A lot of people seem to be pretending that this was some outstanding performance. It wasn't. It's a performance which everyone would slaughter Pickford for. If people are too accepting, we may well make this a permanent transfer and miss our chance to get an actual first choice keeper.

Same difference if the same mistakes are there. It's a poor performance if we go by the same standards. Olsen is not the answer. The fun of it not being Pickford in goal will wear off eventually and everyone will be begging for another new keeper. New keeper is still a priority.
I think that the main thing , is that he is bigger , calmer , and hopefully not prone to mind blurts like Pickford. Not sure that he is the future , but surely he is better in the short term

Just seen the highlights. Some on here really have double standards...

The goal. He's literally stood on his post for a very saveable shot. It's exactly the same poor positioning that Pickford rightfully got called out for against Newcastle, although this is potentially worse than that. I see very little, if any chastising of him like was done for Pickford.

And the flurry of saves he made came directly after him giving the ball away with a shocking pass on the edge of the box, so I can only go as far as to say he that made up for his mistake.

I think people have blinders on because of the Pickford hate (which is fair, I hate him too), but let's not make out like this was some special performance, it was a standard Pickford performance. New keeper is still a priority. View attachment 116583
As one who you've definitely said has double standards before the difference for me remains Olsen has had very few games where he makes no saves and concedes. The stats are starting to have less and less of a sample size problem and they favor Olsen massively. No double standards there. Just Pickford being a poor shot stopper.

And fwiw I'm rooting for Pickford both because he's an Everton player and because he's an asset to us if we decide to move him.

I've just seen his flurry of saves from another angle, the initial shot takes a deflection so it's a better save than I thought. Up fast to deal with the next two as well.

He was called into the action because of a poor pass out to Doucoure but he didn't become flustered by the mistake.

He is the best goalkeeper currently on our books, he should be first choice now.

Then if we can upgrade in the Summer then all the better. But he seems steady and that'll do for the time being.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that positioning. As for the ball being given away by him, it wasn't. It wasn't really the best place to give a pass but loads happened between that pass and the shots being saved including Doucoure receiving the ball.

His kicking is perfectly acceptable by the way, I notice a few people keep pointing out that his kicking is bad, it really isn't, it's just standard.

He is miles better than Pickford for me.

I don’t think he is hugely better than Pickford, but, he is much calmer. The last thing you need is a highly strung goal keeper, it rubs off on the rest of the defenders. Hopefully Pickford’s injury give Olsen enough games for him to convince Carlo he’s a better bet than Pickford. Really though Olsen is only back up keeper standard for a team with champions league aspirations, hopefully we can bring in a number one in the summer, ditch Pickford and keep Olsen as a steady back up.

On a different note. I've been singing Emilio Martinez praises since the end of last season. But did anyone see both Lindgards goals last night. wow

He was boss tonight, made some crucial saves and he has a real calmness about him that the manic Mackem just doesn’t possess. The shirt should be his to lose now, end of story.
Agree has to be given a chance to see can he be long term answer. Simply no way we can go into next season with Pickford no 1

A no frills good solid keeper, hes not interested in playing for the cameras just doing his job.
He gives the team and the fans confidence unlike that tit head Pickford.

I hope Pickford has played his last game for us.
