When we play like we did in the first half last night, with no player plugging the gap in between the midfield (Barry/Gueye) and Rom, then he looks awful, as he has to come back and link the play which just isn't his game.

Get it to him quickly in the final third, with players around him (like in the second half) and he's one of the best strikers in the league.

Simple.

He's re-found his goal-scoring touch now, which is brilliant for everybody.

I agree. Indeed, that's my point - people just flip positions when he scores, all is forgiven. For me, I don't think turning up for 15 minutes after being largely terrible for at least the last nine months justifies hero status.
The match thread? lol

Stop press it's full of knee jerk knackers.

I imagine this will be the start of a mad purple patch, considering the fixtures that are coming up.

Hopefully he doesn't disappear again once the level of opposition increases.

He hasn't improved though, that's the thing.

You see them every game. Then, of course, when he scores he's a hero again, as people are fickle.

As for criticising me of all people for not readjusting an opinion, that's just laughable.

I don't exaggerate his weaknesses - I simply note them when it's unpopular to do so after he's scored. Otherwise, it's a universally accepted position, as shown above.
You shouldn't judge people's comments during a game when emotion is high. They aren't judging his whole game just that individual moment.

No one says he has a silky first touch or isn't anonymous in parts of games but just like Ibrahimovic he gets goals and leaves all the rest of the work to others. Unlike Ibrahimovic he's 23 years old and has lightning pace while Ibrahimovic has a better touch.

Since Ibrahimovic has won the league pretty everywhere he has gone I think it's fair to say you don't even in the modern game need a striker who drops deep and gets involved in the buildup play.

What you do need is someone who scores.

He's proven. He's scored heavily every season, both for us and West Brom.
He's one of the best centre forwards in the PL and he will most likely hit 20+ goals again this season.
He's not perfect and it's OK to say that, but at the same time, appreciate what we've got, because he's the best I've seen since Lineker/Gray/Sharp and it's a long time since they were banging them in. Better than Dunc. Better than Yak. Better than AJ.....

And it will probably be a long time till we get another.

As a lone striker, he is going to rely on other players to score goals. He may score the odd solo goal, but that would be on the counter rather than creating his own shot. He is exactly the type of striker Koeman wants.

If he plays like he did last night for the whole season we'll be on to a winner. There's nothing that frustrates me more than when he tries to play like Lewandowski with his hold up play. He need to play on the shoulder of the defenders game in game out and then he'll do what he does best consistently, put the ball in the back of the net.

Used his strength brilliantly last night, backing off their players n that.

Rubbish first half but he still could've scored a couple.

His confidence should be sky high now though, well in Rom.
