Romelu Lukaku

Tubey has never liked Rom, let's be honest. He came around when he absolutely had to, whilst Rom was scoring every game. But it doesn't take long for him to revert back.

I think we just have to accept that something happened to him. Perhaps he was cuckolded by a bass-voiced black man of similar stature, and through no fault of Rom's, Tubes just can't get that out of his head.

I think what we found out this summer was that the majority of top level players (and even a good portion of mid-level players) think they're too good for Everton. After the last 2 years of mediocrity, can we really blame them? Lukaku was widely regarded as our best player last season and had a massive price put on his head so it's hard to blame him for thinking he could do better.

Arteta was a bit different than Lukaku. He wasn't really pushing for the exit at the time and Everton had to sell someone to pay off bad debt. The blame for losing Arteta was always on Kenwright and the board for debt mismanagement.

Rumour is Arteta put in a transfer request, it was more of a fellaini type request than a Lescott one - waiving the fee owed to the player instead going to Everton.

Last season was a perfect example of what im trying to explain, early season Lukaku was a man who could go anywhere he wanted, as long as he kept it up consistently, but he didn't, instead he almost disappeared but still kept going on about how great he was or wanted to be.

If your going to talk about yourself in such positive terms, at least make sure you back it up.

Actually, this will be the last post lol

That's just it though - it's not the only thing he's in the team for.

He'll score goals. He'll even score them in most games. He is indeed one of, if not the best pure goalscorers I've seen in this league in my life - he has an unparalleled instinct and seems to score without thinking, when others would overthink and blaze over or hit the 'keeper etc. You can't teach that ability. In that regards he's unique.

But what happens is that he'll score, but we'll lose 2-1, because he's done nothing else in the game and we've been caught out over and over again on the counter, and unless you're an elite team and clubs sit off you, you can't hope to deal with that level of counter attacking pressure, and that - along with Martinez overall being awful - was the number one reason we conceded goals and dropped points last season.

In the modern game, you simply cannot be a poacher and that's your job done - you have t o be able to hold play and bring others into the game. Lukaku doesn't do that to any degree of consistency or competency, and that's why I get on his back, because for the last three seasons he should have been given a kick up the arse to improve that side of his game, and Martinez at least simply didn't do it, or Lukaku is completely incapable of it.

You should have stopped there and had a word with yourself.

The lad scores goals, simple as!
For us he has played 131 games and scored 64 goals. Thats a goal every 2.04 games

Alvaro Morata when at juventus 93 games 27 goals. Goal every 3.59 games
Harry Kane for spurs 131 games 65 goals. Goal every 2.01 games
Antoine Greizmann Atletico 109 games 59 goals. Goal every 1.84 games
Mauro Icardi at Inter 108 games 55 goals. Goal every 1.96 games

His record stands up with all these players of a similar age and he arguably gets worst service, maybe apart from icardi

For a club of our standing, he is irreplaceable. We would all love a player who does what Lukaku does, plus holds up the ball brilliantly and chases defenders down all day. However, there are only about 5 of them in world football at the moment. A bigger worry for me is the gap between Lukaku and our other strikers. If he gets injured we will struggle.

Definitely reminds me of Latchford. Our fans used to give him stick, as they did Sheedy, for lack of workrate. which just shows some of our fans have always been divvies!

Valencia and Golden Head to the rescue!

It's funny that because as a younger fan who only knows these players by reputation I only hear glowing reports of Sheedy so I would never have thought he got stick at the time. I guess in years to come when I'm bringing up a son I'll be laughing about how some fans wanted Rom sold!

I know, it's hard to believe but we used to have ongoing arguments with people around us who said Sheedy was lazy and didn't tackle back enough.

Crazy! All I hear is about his wand of a left foot and giving the v to the kop aside from the old highlights videos my dad brought me up on where he looked boss. Then again rightly or wrongly big Dunc and Tim Cahill had their detractors constantly and they were my heroes growing up.
