Romelu Lukaku

That lad can taste the CL and hear it's anthem ringing in his ears. Any signature for Everton will be one that will be scrapped with immediate effect if/when a club willing to pay comes forward. He knows he cant just walk out, and he knows that the club as things stand are within their rights to try and get an auction going that could knacker any preferred destination Lukaku might have. He has to wait on a trigger to be put in place to make this a clean break.

I see it going one of two ways:

1/ Lukaku signs an extension in the next few weeks with a clause to leave for £70M. Summer comes along and it''s met and he leaves.

or

2/ Lukaku doesn't sign and goes into the summer and he and his agent agitate that he wants to leave. The club will inisist it'll only be for a massive fee. The player will put a transfer request in. Then he'll be sold....probably for £70M.

I cant see any circumstance where he hangs around here waiting for "ambition" to be shown in terms of player
acquisition- that's why he chose it as an explanation in the first place: he knows they either cant or wont follow through this summer with any such investment.

Why don't you wager option 3 then Dave. He stays.

3/ He will sign his contract, we will sign players, Ronny K will make us hear the CL anthem.

Stop talking absolute tommyrot.

You've lectured me often enough in the last 12 months on FFP and PL rules on wages etc. Have two table spoons of that medicine and get back to me with how much cash you think this "ambition" will be matched with.

Our work over the last 2 transfer windows has cleared the decks allowing us to spend a vast sum of money on players without falling foul of any rules, plus our increased commercial income, coupled with the massive increase in Sky prizemoney, the cash is there.

Its almost like someone has a plan. Spooky.

But nice.

Oh, "a vast sum".

Hark at this lad here.

Do you have any figures to back that sweeping statement up with, young feller-me-lad?

We will. But I cant believe anyone thinks Lukaku spoke up last week and yet still thinks he'll be here.

What on earth would have been his motive if he was looking to stay?

A "Come on, we've got a chance here, let's get a shift on" to the board. Strike while the iron is hot and all that.

If he was looking to move, genuinely, there would have been an all-out media assault from Raiola. There hasn't been.

As I laid out to you the other day Dave:

It involves him apologising and a statement upon his new contract extension along the lines of:

"The initial deal was refused on the basis that he wanted assurances on the clubs progress. After sitting down with Koeman, Walsh and the owners, he's now confident in the direction with which the club is progressing and is looking forward to the new Premier League season and a shot at Champions League qualification."

We get another season and one last chance to get him what he wants whilst bumping up his wedge to keep him and his agent quiet. We don't qualify and then he goes. We qualify and he stays and has a go with us and then we reassess.

A game is being played here.

A nudge? Y'know.
He was looking to prompt our parsimonious board with a sooper dooper stadium to cough up for to spend a massive amount of cash on players?

Come on mate, brass tacks time: Lukaku IS the transfer warchest this summer.

115m Net, added to the incoming 35m in the Summer from the sale of The Clev, Niasse, Geri, 150m MIN spent on players this Summer.

Bookmarking this for when we get Peter Crouch in on loan and Lee Cattermole to replace Rom and Barks as the Stadium negotiations fall through.
