Romelu Lukaku

The Stones deal last summer does not fill me with confidence that a quick deal will be done.

If Lukaku's sale is delayed and delayed, and it leads to a summer where we end up just spending what we get for him and a couple of others going out the door, there should be a storm of protests at the level of spending and big questions asked about wtf use Moshiri is.

I accept that scenario is not in play at the moment, but if it does roll out that way there can be no hiding place for the largest share holder calling the shots at the club.
Another 'sell to buy' transfer window in the summer isn't going to cut it with the supporters surely. We'll all be watchng this play out. But I agree that another Stones type episode followed by using 'only' those proceeds to boost the squad will be disconcerting. Hopefully it'll be a good window for all the right reasons.

Have to say, I dont really have a clue mate.

Actually, I do. You are right. The fees are not an issue, (not in CL?), but the wages might be.

But then weve freed up a bundle from the wage will the last year or so.

Lets see.

Yes, someone was saying we needed to bridge the wage gap between us and Spurs this summer (£66mill - £112mill) otherwise after that, we can only increase it by £7mill + any other revenue such as player sales.

With a year left on his contact overseas clubs can start agreeing a pre-contact with him 6 months later so why would they pay 60m?
Because they would all be afraid of losing him to a rival.
Do you think Manure will sit around hoping the price will drop or wait till January to get him on a free Knowimg Chelsea will just pay the 60 million.
Even inthe summer of 2018 there will be a bidding war and 60 m is the minimum that will be achieved IMHO

So let's see how the summer plays out. If Costa goes, Chelsea will have to buy a striker... If Ibrahimovic goes, Utd will have to buy a striker... If Kane leaves Spurs, they will have to buy a striker. If any of these situations unfold the club concerned will have to buy a striker to keep their fans onside... the prem's top scorer would be a prize acquisition in those circumstances, and the club concerned will pay through the nose.

If no-one needs him, then we keep him. Double his wages with a contract extension that includes a £80m release clause. He won't turn down a pay rise that big at the end of the summer, when no-one has moved for him at £100m. Sorry but Moshiri and Koeman are handling this very, very well.

Your last statement is 100% correct although some posters here will not thank you for it.
RK has always said Rom is staying.
The 100 million is to put other clubs off
Rom has 2 options
Stay on 70 k a week while ROSS Rooney and others get 100 k plus a week or sign a new deal guaranteeing us one more year and a reasonable buy out clause and get 140 k a week
The club have flexed their muscle and told Rom his AH agent and other clubs that it's on our terms

We cant keep an unhappy player who is this important.

£100M my hat. He'll go for about £75M in the summer.

Do the deal, and do it quickly so that we have the full three months to spend it.

And you know this how
Who in the club has said this
Which respected journalist has said this
Is it just your negative outlook or can you back this up with facts.
Wether you accept it or not Dave , it's a new era
Bobby dreamboat has moved on to pastures new ( well he was sacked actually ) Billy has no real power anymore and a quiet man with loads of Money is running the show.
Also we have a new manager who doesn't have bullshit as a middle name
Phenomenal times for our club

The Liverpool Echo £100m price tag exclusive looks to me like it has been fed to them by the club. The John Stones precedent shows how ruthless we can be on budging over our players' valuations. We wanted £50m, refused Chelsea's £35m, kept him another season, City offered £50m, we sold. Hopefully the same is applied to Romelu - £100m this summer (or less to an overseas club will do).

I really do think the ball is in our court though - we 100% can keep an unhappy Romelu. It is world cup season next year - he wants to lead the line for what will be one of the pre-tournament favourites and therefore needs to play every week.

Ronald and Walsh should be weighing up whether losing x amount of money on Romelu by taking him down to his last year of contract but having a better chance at top4 is worth the extra £50m we would get in transfer fees (assuming he sold for £20-£45m in 12 months time). In my opinion, we should keep him for 12 months.

You're saying you'd pay £50m for a one year loan? Plus around £4m on his wages?

£20-45m next summer is lowballing it tbh.

Papers are quoting between £20m and £30m for Michael Keane, who is 1) a defender 2) playing for Burnley, 3) has 12 months left and 4) isn't the Premier League top scorer.

Its simple cost benefit analysis though - can we replace him with a sure fire signing that is going to promise the goals Romelu did? These next few years are massive for our development.

Fair enough - i was probably being too conservative there, especially since the demand for Romelu will be far superior than Keane due to him being a much bigger asset and Premier League clubs paying over the odds in an attempt to stifle foreign clubs, who are able to offer contracts much earlier to a premier league player than they can.

20/45 m
I assume that's a typo
60 million min with one year left.
If more than one club are interested then bidding will push price up.
Plus his kindhearted and generous agent will want a high a fee as possible as he donates his fees to children's charities
