Romelu Lukaku

What makes this debate even crazier is that over the last 4 years, we've basically not seen the team with a semi-component striker instead of Lukaku upfront because we haven't had anyone remotely good as backup and he's never been injured and plays 90 minutes every game.

I'd be curious how we'd play with someone else in his place but it's the great unknown.

His fitness record is the one thing we would struggle to replace. He has been offset by Besic and McCarthy who are permacrocks.

That alone makes him worth a vast outlay.

Thing is with him having the physique of a boxer by 27 that could see him burn out fast. He has a lot of football miles on the clock already.

Yes he been playing regular first team football since his teens, but like Rooney could be burnt out by 30. Saying that he is ripped and obviously looks after himself better than Rooney did.

Thinking about prices, I've divided goals by price tag. So 80mill tag (for lukaku) divided by 25 goals scored 2016-17 = £3.2m per goal.

Apply that to strikers we want to buy (potentially) means Girouds £20m price is a snip, as £3.2x16 goals makes him worth £51m.

Now I've left off assists and age. So, I need a clever boffin on here to work out an algorithm that takes this into account and gives us a fair price for any player. So we can have an accurate valued at price list.

Easy?

They are two different competitions.

It would be like a player being bought by a team in January being Cup tied in the F.A Cup because he had played a League Cup tie in September whilst at his previous club.
Fair enough for Champions and Europa. But if he plays in Europa qualifiers and lands back on a different team in the group stage it'd be more akin to playing for a League 2 side in the early FA cup rounds and then transferring to a Prem side who had yet to play. Regardless, it's all hypothetical. Bye Rom.

Yes, I see what you mean......plays for team A in Europa qualifiers, transfers to team B on deadline day and plays for it in CL group stage, but that team is eliminated and goes into EL hat in the knock out stage after Christmas.

That is indeed a tricky one.

In that case I could see the merit in @Toffeepot assertion that the qualifiers do not cup tie a fellow for the competitions proper.

Without knowing a definitive answer, that sounds feasible to me.

Lukaku and Raiola better think twice if they come to us looking for Loyalty payments and Agents' fees.

I'd hope we would tell them where to go...

He can get off if we get an acceptable offer. I still think we should make him submit a transfer request.
