Romelu Lukaku

He'll stay because he's under a 3 year contract. Unless someone meets our exorbitant asking price.

They didn't with Stones.

People are forgetting that the game had changed in the last few years.

Someone will offer us £60-65 million and he'll be gone sadly. I just hope Martinez follows him out the door and we get someone with a decent CV to come in and spend the £100+ million kitty we'll hopefully have.

....it is a very fair point, but in hindsight the decision to keep Stones hasn't particularly worked out well for anybody at this stage. Saying that, I suspect Lukaku will be told he's staying, I'm not sure when his contract is up but we should still have some wiggle room before Bosman time.

Remember how exciting it was when he signed I really thought we was going places. Absolute waste of the past 2 seasons.

When I saw we'd got him on loan on transfer window deadline day I ran around the lounge upstairs and round the kitchen celebrating. You're right we'll be hard pressed to replace him

If we sell him to Utd I wonder what the chances are we will try and get Rooney as some type of Part exchange?
Part exchanges never ever happen.

The media LOVE talking about them, but when was the last time you heard of one actually coming off? Ibrahimovic/Eto'o is the only one of any size that I can remember

I'd rather not sell, but if we do sell to Utd with Rooney at the late stage of his career and us having a decent amount of Cash + expensive players we might possibly off load it might be a faint chance, probably not but if we did sign Rooney for next to nothing apart from wages we could probably get another decent Striker and still be strong upfront.

If Lukaku doesn't sign a new contract how long would people be happy with him staying here? Is it worth risking him running down his 3 years remaining , on the chance his goals put us in Champions League position over the said timespan? See what everyone thinks like.

I think 12/18 months is realistic and then sell him to the highest bidder before he runs into the last year of his contract.

Value will still be sky high.

Trouble is getting down to that 12 months, only 6 more and he can sign abroad for free and likely to be a lot more interest from bigger clubs (ie Real) if there was no fee.

One more year then. Clubs will be desperate for him this summer, next summer... and for so many teams money isn't even a consideration... they'll be throwing just as much money at us next year too.

Bobby should be using every ounce of his charm to convince him for one more year now we have some backing, give him a pay rise as well with a get out clause if we miss out on CL next year. No matter what money we get for him we will not replace him with better so the fee is irrelevant, at the minute we don't have the pull to lure a better striker as there are very few out there anyway so let's lick his arse and try get one more year out of him!

As much criticism as Martinez rightly gets, it's his madcap tactics that have allowed Lukaku to score enough goals to get noticed by better teams.

He'll never have it this easy again.

Hes the main man in our set up, he won't score as many else where but then again he might be competing for leagues and Europe.

True that but I like think Lukaku is all about the team doing well not just himself. If we get the cup final and he dosent score at either game at Wembley but Barkley does im sure he would be just as happy.
