Romelu Lukaku

Would imagine we will have a few top targets and will try and get them done quickly before the tournament if only to save some money if they have a good Euros. I know money isn't an issue like it was but still makes sense.

Also if we get a couple in early it strengthens our hand when we talk to Rom and the rest about staying if they see we are signing good players.

Without wishing to appear negative, any/all of these alleged 'top targets' might prefer to wait to see whether Everton can retain Rom, JS, RB etc before putting pen to paper... a potential Catch 22 situation.

I'm pretty sure that Lukaku will give us at least the first half of next season to see if CL ambitions with Everton are realistic, particularly if there are significant incoming players early in the summer.

I'm assuming contract re-negotiations are taking place currently, so these sort of noises must be expected.

I would hope so. He's been our saving grace this season and both he, his agent and the club know it.

I think Lukaku's future is dependent on Martinez leaving. If Martinez is manager next year then Lukaku will leave. He is the type of player who you build a team around, we should be set up to play to his strengths. I go back to the Chelsea game, he scored two goals, one a wonder goal, but look at him up to that point. He was getting no service, his head was down, we have seen this quite a lot in him. And still he has kept banging in goals. I'm sure he is thinking that if he got the proper service and had someone up with him to create some space he would score more, I am sure he will want to move if he can't get the support he feels he needs at Everton.
A new manager, a new approach and new players would be enough to keep our good Ayers.

A new Manager wont magically make us appear in the 2016/17 Champions League, which is what he's wanting to be doing. He's off, regardless of who the Manager is and regardless of Moshiri being in charge.

This is true but at least with a competent manager we might a chance or at least some belief, but with Roberto there is none. I look at this another way, why wouldn't he want to go? You have to question the ambition of any decent player who wants to stay in a bottom half side.

I would say it depends on who the new manager is.

But really looks like Rom is making waves.:bye:

Quite possibly, going to be an interesting summer.

If Rom leaves and Martinez stays this will become the new excuse for the Bobby fan club aka rebuilding the squad blah blah blah this time next season.

No mate. He should be piped right down by the chairman immediately.
" I know you have ambition Rom, as have I. But if you gob off again before the semi or even the final.. You will still be here when your in you mid 20's lad playing against Charlton in our league cup games.. Keep quiet and win us a cup and we will talk in the summer. "

I believe that if we can bring in a manager with Champions League experience and who has money to buy Champions League class players then why would you leave. I think players can be convinced to stay if there is a realistic opportunity to move forward. I can't see how Martinez can convince anyone that the team is progressing under his tutelage.
