Romelu Lukaku

Erm... yes?

He's paid more in one week than a lot of us make in a year. If he just gives up, given the prices people pay for tickets to see him perform a job most of us would kill to do, then not only would I blame him for being a petulant brat, I'd think he'd need a good smack.
If his wage is what I think it is, it's more than a lot of us make in 2 years.

Not really mate, he hasn't given up because he wants to, he has given up because the team around him is a total mess, you can take us much pride in your own work as you want but when your not being handed the right tools to work with, in this case organised team mates there is nothing you can do. He might be picking up the money but his efforts would still be going to waste while Roberto has a say in matters.
It horrible to watch for us but he isn't the cause of this, earlier in the season he was in with a shout of being top league scorer this season, he tried but there was nothing he could do alone, rather than run out of steam he has more or less decided to save it for a manager who deserves it.

Besides if his lack of effort helps get Roberto out I would say he is doing a great job!

But that was my point, you can say all you want about how he should act but when he is playing champions league games and winning trophies and we are hypothetically turning in performances like we have done for 2 years (if we continued with martinez) then will he care that he gave up in march for us?

i still stand by what i said the other week, Lukaku has done more than enough for us this season if he didn't kick another ball for the club. Scored more than cottee, single handedly won us games, hell we wouldn't be in the semi final if it wasn't for what HE did on the night.

That's his job though, he's paid a wagon load of cash to score goals and win us games.

He's been like this for the 3 seasons he's been here - goes through periods of looking like a zombified Michael Ricketts, but ultimately he scores goals every year. It's just the way with him it seems
I think it's the way most goalscorers are to be fair. The majority of top strikers are just good at putting the ball in the net - when they're doing that every week they look great, but when they're not they start to look very ordinary.

I know Chelsea and Arsenal fans have had periods of exasperation with Costa and Giroud this year for the exact same things people are talking about here. I'd rather have a half arsed Rom up front than Stracqualursi running round like someone had set his shorts on fire or Andy Johnson chasing down every diagonal ball just to ensure he didn't have to anywhere near the box.

If it were not or the Champions League comments then I think Rom would be getting much less of the criticism which seems to be growing daily.

Yes his recent performances have been below par and his body language doesn't appear very good, which aren't entirely excusable to be fair.

But lots of players go through poor patches, as we're seeing at the moment, and that's contributing to the squad looking pretty woeful as a whole.

People are simply combining the fact that he's made it aware that he wants out to the fact that he's not playing very well at the moment.

And to be fair it might be correct - he may have given up, or he's simply going through a poor phase and we'll see a rejuvenated Rom soon.

Or it could be a combination of both... I don't know. Either way, unfortunately we are still relying on his goals so let's just wait and see.

He's pretty clearly been one of our very few shinning stars this season, thus I think he still deserves some leeway before the knives come out.

It's one of them as well mate, he was piss poor against Watford, the Mancs and Arsenal so give him a rest and put someone else in. Not oh no, he's basically just got him playing every single minute and it's the same with Ross. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with being dropped/rested for a game or two because they come back sharper.

Besic will pr9bably now get a game but not by choice, it's due to McCarthy being suspended. He's just not flexible enough with what he has at his disposal.

The likelihood of Rom getting rested any time before the end of the season is low. Very, very low. Why? The other alternative is Koné.

Niasse seems nowhere near the scenes as well, so whether we like it or not he's going to be starting. Hence why I said we should get behind him.

Yes I think the ship has now sailed to rest him. Though knowing how our Boberto just loves to popcorn us he will leave him out of the Derby squad altogether and have Niasse and Kone up top for that one.

He will leave here our best striker in 30 years, and probably have a pick of clubs who in return will pay premium to sign him.

If he is also fed up of losing in a poorly managed team then eventually that is going to show in his character. there are many different factors here that could lead to an attitude change but i still prefer the ran into the gorund theory as to why he hasn't scored even more for us.

but then that is the thing, he has 25 goals, highest scorer league wise since Cottee, highest overall since lineker. What more do you want from him?

He's been fantastic for us. I was at the game last night and first half he was just jogging round, not chasing anything down, literally looked like he wasn't arsed, the tiredness excuse could be put out there, but it was funny that when we went down to 10 men he then put a shift in.

At one point in the second half he was over by the Everton fans and started waving his arms at us to jeer us up, there were plenty of shouts at him along the lines of "You start putting some effort in, then we will"

By the way, this isn't having a pop at him because I've always stood by him, even when he was getting loads of grief.
