Romelu Lukaku

Just spoke to my older brother who was at the game - rumours in the ground from the off he played with a pain killing injection - My brothr stated he could hardly run , and was poor !
Is it any wonder when Kone came on he did more holding the ball up and looked faster why play someone injured if the rumour was true , and TBF it looked like it!
Highlight our need for a good back up.Should never be playing someone not 100% first game of the season.

To add to the above, what we should be doing is treating Lukaku like he isn't this big muscular Benteke player - but imagine instead he's Francis Jeffers. Imagine that he's a slotter who is best at playing off the shoulder and needs a support network around him instead of being the support network. Maybe then we wouldn't hit ridiculous passes that bounce of his shins and allow us to be countered every single time.

Tell me a striker in world football who does this mate.

If there is one (which I dont think there is), does that player play for a) a huge powerhouse club with millions to spend; or b) a team absolutely loaded with high class creative midfield players.

What you're asking for is to neglect that we don't have one Erikson-type creative player, neglect that we operate on a much smaller budget, and finally, neglect that Lukaku showed in europe that in this system that we play he can score goals if he's up for it. Just like last season, he looked on Saturday like he's still on his holidays which is probably understandable, yet Kone comes on with a bit of sprite and gets a goal and an assist!

You make far too many excuses for him mate.

Are you confusing me with someone else???

Nah he played in a counter attacking system for both teams - but only for Martinez's transition as manager in his first few months. Ever since then he's been Heskeying the place out.

The problem isn't Lukaku; the problem is the player were forcing Lukaku to try to be (and that he's failing miserably at) because we don't get the ball in the right areas.

It's not even a case of "pass the ball more to him", as people are detailing above. The problem is where the focal point of the attack starts. We hit Lukaku to feet in a deep role, when we should be hitting a creative attacking midfielder to feet with Lukaku 10 yards further up the pitch spearheading the line. Then we can start talking about whether Lukaku gets enough service.

You neglect so much mate.

The fact that Lukaku should be far better at holding the ball up than he is. The fact that Kone showed more zest in his cameo than Lukaku did all game. I can't think of single thing that Kone has over Lukaku talent-wise yet Kone completely showed him up on Sat.

You want him to play as Franny Jeffers, so therefore you are blaming the manager for not getting him into the areas that you deem appropriate for someone of Lukaku's skill. Yet you don't acknowledge that teams against us are sitting deep inside their own half so there is no space in behind. You want him to poach perhaps? With a support network around him? yet you don't acknowledge that we don't currently have the creative personnel to do this nor do we have the money to purchase this network (like Arsenal with their creative midfield).

Finally, you are basically asking Lukaku not be our focal point and build attacks from him, yet neglect the fact that we are Everton! We don't have the luxery to allow our 28million striker to be a "fox in the box", we need him to be the centre-point, to get us up the pitch, to take pressure off the defence. Same whether he cost 4million or 28, but for 28 we expect goals too.

The lad is still very young and needs games, experience etc. But to just pass off his current under-development because we are asking him to perform as an all-round top striker is wrong imo.

Reckon having Naisy behind him running around like a headless chicken could give him the space he needs. Then maybe relegate Barkley into a deeper midfield role instead of Barry alongside McCarthy. Oh yeah, and play TWO wingers.

We only need to play 2 wingers, thats the main reason why we cant attack fluidly.

Its football 101, my sons under12 manager can see what the issue is, but baldy just simply cant see it.

Feel sorry for the lad. Would be a golden boot contender in a team that had someone who knew what a through ball looks like.

I can't win on here - I either criticise him too much and clearly hate him, or I defend him too much and neglect mentioning his faults.

Make your minds up FFS!

Naismith should never play as a second striker to Lukaku

The only time them two have worked on the pitch together is against Arsenal at home were Naismith played up front and Rom played on the right

Are you the scout? Surely with your CV?

And we don't need two wingers at all. Unless you're thinking we should sell Baines and/or Coleman?

Yeah because the 1 winger system worked so well for us last season and again on Saturday.

Saturday, when Baines didn't play?

Last season, when we played much of last season with either Mirrallas (out and out winger, ignores Baines), Naismith (not very good) or Barkley (played poorly out there).

Osman did a job, made a difference when he played, Pienaar missed most of the year.

I'm not saying we dont need a "specialist" out on the left, but we certainly dont need an out and out winger who doesn't pass the ball to the best creative left back in the league.
