Just an average player for me at this stage of his career. You can show all the stats you like but i judge a player on what i see week in and week out. He is extremely frustrating to watch and very inconsistent. He just had three and a half dreadful games on the bounce before deciding that he wants to play a bit. You can see there is some ability there but he absolutely does not do it often enough, not at all. Whether its a mental thing ive no idea but because of the extreme inconsistency, he is average.

The truth will hurt the fanboys but its there for all to see each week. At this stage, average.

I wouldn't call him average.. as the stats don't lie and his goals record is certainly up there.. especially for a lad his age.

But to a certain extent I agree, with his size and power he should be the spearhead of our attacks. Should be pinning defenders. Turning them. Laying it off. Holding it up. If he could do that.. imagine how often he could get Barkley into dangerous areas.

And for me.. there really is no excuses for it. Hes had 2years+ at the top level playing week in week out. Our defenders control a ball better than him. Hell I'd even argue I could.

Needs to be addressed for sure. You can't always play a ball for him to run onto.

Superb player. His record proves it beyond doubt. Assists and goals aplenty. For all the dodgy touches he has with his back to goal, he's still got the quality to make and score enough chances to put players with better touches to shame, which is why he's been worth and will be worth every penny of his fee, despite his faults.

Sadly it's taking a while for many to get their heads around this, shown by the absolute tosh getting posted about him when he has a bad run.

LOL

brilliant, but i just dont understand why is first touch is so rubbish?! sometimes its so bad he comes back into his own half! surely its just a skill he can work on...its not like its finishing, or seeing a pass that you cant really teach...weird

look at deulofeus first touch for example...fantastic

My first touch at 5-a-side has long been mocked, and recently I changed my footy trainers, got some really snug Adidas ones to replace a very long-serving pair of Nike ones. For some reason - perhaps it's the greater sensitivity afforded from the boot being a closer fit - my first touch and close control has improved markedly. Possibly something for Rom to consider?

is there a great substitute for lead?

to be fair, i think the swansea goal was a one-off. he never practices them and just hit it in on instinct. don't think he's even come close since. you are right though, he does have the technique - i think if he puts practice in, same with rom, they could be specialists. baines is still king though, and garbutt more down the line.

The way Barkley hit that ball, with the power and swerve made me think he had enormous potential. Long term yes Garbutt will be very good as well.

3 of his goals assisted by delly. it's quite simple, have a guy that consistently puts it into the box with class and rom becomes a goal scoring machine.

delly + rom on the field opens things up for everyone and it will only get more open once defenses start sending 2 people to delly.

Top player.

People only dont rate him because they can see how good he can be.
His record is fantastic considering hes not a fox in the box type.
