Romelu Lukaku

Just an average player for me at this stage of his career. You can show all the stats you like but i judge a player on what i see week in and week out. He is extremely frustrating to watch and very inconsistent. He just had three and a half dreadful games on the bounce before deciding that he wants to play a bit. You can see there is some ability there but he absolutely does not do it often enough, not at all. Whether its a mental thing ive no idea but because of the extreme inconsistency, he is average.

The truth will hurt the fanboys but its there for all to see each week. At this stage, average.

Name a better striker in the Premier League this season.

closer to the truth than id like to admit this in fairness

I think the reason that some of us on here are critical of his play (not goal scoring ability) is that we want him to fulfill the potential he very clearly has. Yes, he manages to score even in games where he wasn't great for most of the match (yesterday among them.) That is an attribute that we haven't had up front since I've watched Everton and I don't for a second lose sight of that. But, the thought of a Lukaku who can bring others into play by learning how to control the ball with his back to goal makes me so happy in my pants. When the ball bounces off his head, foot, knee three yards to the nearest defender, it's like 90 minutes of blue balls. Hence the frustration in match-time posts. If he can learn how control the ball and hold up play, he can transform from a boss slotter to an all around brilliant forward. He has the attitude, physical attributes and team to grow into this potential, and I hope we see that growth in Everton blue.

Don't know if you meant it this way, but I don't want to see us use him as a target man to hold up play. I want the ball passed in front of him, I want him running at defenders and slotting. That's his best chance.

TBF, he's difficult to get behind with performances like his one in the first half. Nobody wants him to fail, but if he's playing crap, people should say so. Also, Deulofeu had a large say in the game, it wasn't all Rom.
Bang on. Funny how the post you are replying too had 10 likes and yours had 0. Perfect reply to a post that is wrong at nearly every level. Gerry turned this game on it's head, he got to the bye line twice and put fantastic crosses in ,but as usual no striker got across the front defender ,so he changed his tactics and slid some curve balls into rom without going past anyone.

Name a better EFC striker since the 80s

There's not many. Some of the most expensive and proven strikers in the league are having stinkers this year, we're lucky to have a world class talent in Rom.
average is too harsh i'll admit, and i certainly think he's good enough for us

just would equally disagree on the world class part. My prediction is that rom wont turn out to be a 20 goal a season player, but pretty much retain his current very respectable strike rate of around 15 league goals each season.

Hes good but i doubt he'll ever improve to the extent that the faults in his game that annoy us every other week disappear.

on the positive side it means it might be easier to keep him which could make it a good thing for us

hope im wrong on both counts and he both turns into 1 of the worlds best and stays here
