Romelu Lukaku

average is too harsh i'll admit, and i certainly think he's good enough for us

just would equally disagree on the world class part. My prediction is that rom wont turn out to be a 20 goal a season player, but pretty much retain his current very respectable strike rate of around 15 league goals each season.

Hes good but i doubt he'll ever improve to the extent that the faults in his game that annoy us every other week disappear.

on the positive side it means it might be easier to keep him which could make it a good thing for us

hope im wrong on both counts and he both turns into 1 of the worlds best and stays here

Even if he only turns out as good as your prediction, that's hardly terrible, in fact it'd be our best striker in 25 years bar one season from Yakubu. Better than Ferguson by a mile.

Everyone expects so much whilst forgetting how crap we've had it in the forward department. The entitlement is shocking.

Don't know if you meant it this way, but I don't want to see us use him as a target man to hold up play. I want the ball passed in front of him, I want him running at defenders and slotting. That's his best chance.
I agree
But if he develops that hold-up play he'll be able to do more of what he did yesterday for Kone's goal
He should be aiming to set up a heck of a lot more goals than he does

Yeah could do, lots of players in our team have lots of skills they need to add to their game. At this stage it's nice to see us play more to his strengths though.

I just think it's important from a developmental position that Martinez doesn't encourage players to avoid playing to his feet with his back to goal just cos he's not very good at it. He will improve at it at this stage of his career. It's far too soon to give up on it.

Agreed. I'm sure they are working at it...perhaps he'll never get any better at it.

Even if he doesn't improve one bit from the player he is today, he's still one of the best strikers in England.

Name a better EFC striker since the 80s
What has that got to do with him being average ? Have you seen the utter state of the strikers we've had since the 80's ? We had a manager in Moyes who was here 10 years and loved to destroy a striker with his tactics. Before him we had the 90's and i'd rather not even go there to be honest. But why since the 80's though ? Not sure im getting your point.

He is average. The evidence is there for all to see.

We are 7 games in FFS.

He has had one exceptional game against Southampton and one decent half against West Brom. The rest have been dire. To answer your question though, Jamie Vardy.

That's nearly a quarter of the season gone. 6 goals scored. On track for 24-25 goals, that's impressive.

Vardy, sure, so it's not a big list.

I didn't mean to say he should be a target man or a hold up striker only. It is just the part of his game that is frustrating. He gets in good positions to hold-up currently, but his touch let's him down. Adding the ability to play with his back to goal, as well as facing goal will make our attack much more potent and difficult to defend. Players like Barkley, Mirallas and Naismith all have the ability to score or create if Lukaku can learn the control required to get them involved quickly and then resume facing goal.

Yep agreed, if he added that to his game he really would be world class. We don't always use him in a way that suits his current abilities.
