Romelu Lukaku

It was on Belgian TV tonight. They havent put it online yet.

I found it; I used the rewind function (arduous work that) of my telenet-box. What I don't understand is why he's laughing at the beginning of the interview.

I suppose I could upload it but I doubt that people would want to see that.

Edit: Not to mention possible legal ramifications.

"Everton’s bid to finalise a new contract for Romelu Lukaku has been thrown into doubt by the club’s refusal to include any buy-out clause worth under £90million with Chelsea and Manchester United watching the situation.

Manager Ronald Koeman is desperate for Lukaku to sign a new five-year contract, with the striker’s agent Mino Raiola claiming he is “99.9999 per cent” sure the striker will recommit himself to Everton.

Lukaku, though, appeared far less certain after scoring his 19th Premier League goal of the season against West Bromwich Albion, when he was asked about a new Everton deal.
Asked by a Dutch reporter whether he will sign the contract Everton have offered, Lukaku replied: “No.” He went on to say “No” when asked whether he is still thinking about it and if there is an agreement.

Lukaku was smiling as he answered each of the three questions, leading to some suggestions that he may have not taken them seriously or answered honestly.

But Telegraph Sport understands there has been a hold up over Everton’s insistence that they do not want to include any buy-out clause in a new contract under £90m.

With two years remaining on his current deal, Everton do not want to agree a new contract that would effectively make Lukaku easier to sign for one of Europe’s richest clubs this summer.

Sources claim that is why Everton chairman Bill Kenwright will not agree to a clause worth between £60m and £70m, which he believes Chelsea and United would be prepared to pay.

Valuing Lukaku at £90m means any interested clubs would have to agree to pay a world record fee to stand any chance of signing the Belgian and would increase Everton’s hopes of keeping him.

Chelsea made an enquiry about re-signing Lukaku last summer, but were not prepared to pay Everton’s asking price, which was £70m at the time. The Stamford Bridge club are in the market for strikers again and the 23-year-old remains one of their top targets.

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has told friends that he expects to join Chelsea at the end of this season, but head coach Antonio Conte could be in the market for two goalscorers if Diego Costa leaves.

United have made Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann their number one summer target, but are reluctant to pay his full £85m release clause and Lukaku is also on their list.

With doubts also emerging over whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another client of Raiola, will stay at Old Trafford for a second season, United are having to carefully examine all of their options.

Whether or not he signs a new contract, Everton will fight hard to keep Lukaku this summer and will demand more than the £70m Chelsea were quoted just under 12 months ago.

Chelsea and United, together with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, are also among the clubs following the situation of Ross Barkley, who will have one year remaining on his contract at the end of the season.

Barkley has been in superb form over recent weeks and is poised to win an England recall when Gareth Southgate names his squad for the Germany and Lithuania games on Thursday.

Tottenham had been leading the chase for Barkley, but his form means they now face increased competition from clubs who could price them out of the market.

Although no progress has been made on a new deal for Barkley, it is understood the 23-year-old has no plans to try to force his way out of Everton at the end of the season.

Barkley is enjoying his role as a regular starter under Koeman now and is focussed solely on his football, rather than his contract or interest in him."

Have to trust the club over this too.
We now have a very astute business man in charge of the club.
We are also in the infancy of a brave new era which will take time to come to fruition.

The contract hold up could be due to many issues for example: Perhaps there is a buyout clause: one which might be activated as soon as the window opens. That is not something we will want.

Negotiating contracts for in demand players take ages. Look at how long Pogba to Man U took. And he has looked anything but a star player from what I have seen this season.

Hopefully this impass will be resolved successfully in our favour soon enough.

Top class journalism right there.

Sums up how blase they are about our great club.

We now know the hold up is because we don't want a clause under £90m and Rom wants it at around £65m. "Sources claim... Bill Kenwright will not agree to a clause worth between £60m and £70m" Translation: BK is the one who's had this story fed to the Telegraph in response to Romelu's interview and the reaction to it.
Despite what some think of him BK is an accomplished negotiator and I can see his point here. Hopefully agreement will be reached at something approaching the £80m mark. If not, we're in for an interesting summer battle.

If I was Rom, I would probably answer "No" to any such questions as well, just to drive all the speculators crazy. You do know he is known for being a practical joker at the club.

Let's just keep our heads on, keep our beds dry and wait and see. Even if he signs, the summer gossip will still be through the roof, so what's the point of worrying about it?

after seeing pogba many a time we have every right to demand more than him. Lukaku loves ambition, saying we're not selling for anything less than world record fee is good ambition and a testament to how highly we rate him.

I reckon this story is all baloni but am commenting on it anyway.
I agree. He wants to be a big time player (sort of is already) then Everton must protect themselves and have a release clause that values him as a top player. Over 90 seems about right these days. If champions league teams really want him then they will have to stump up the cash. Everton are showing him how much they think he's worth and hopefully he sees that and respects it.

I think the impasse has been the release clause and it's probably reached the point where the negotiations have ceased. He won't sign without a easily reachable release clause and we won't give him one without a prohibitive one. Therefore the deal is off.
