Romelu Lukaku

For all the knockers of the Fat Man, here's one of footballs Greatest Ever Thinkers talking about him:

'There is a negative way of assessing Romelu's performance for Manchester United, '

'When Rom scores everyone expects him to score and when he doesn't he is almost directly the reason United haven't won.

'But Rom is ready for that challenge. He will never hide away. He understands what is expected of him. For Belgium he has shown he's one of the best No 9s in the world and I don't understand why he's being treated in a manner which he doesn't deserve.'

Roberto Martinez 23/12/18

How we could do with that clarity of thought back at Goodison.
@davek likes this...unless its in invisible sarcastic font...which is ok coz I like it

I think we all know he can score. It's just the rest of his game that lets him down and whether those goals come against strong opposition when they need it the most. One chance, one goal etc. instead of putting some gloss on the scoreline.

Yesterday was a start I suppose, but do you think he can do that against Juve, Madrid or the RS? I have doubts.
He did it against Brazil, was motm against the rs last season, whole load of myths gleefully flung at him in my opinion

Miss you Rom.

Best striker we've had in my time.
Undoubtedly, Rom has been one of our best strikers in the last two decades, going close to three if we're entirely honest. His record speaks for itself.

And someone actually claimed that Saha was better than him, which made me giggle. Still, I don't think he will ever become a top class striker on the big stage.

Or at least not consistently. There's a big different between appreciation and admiration of what he did for us and the skill he has got, and what he believes he is.

He hasn't scored against the RS for ages and his 4 goals at the world cup were against Panama and Tunisia. He was decent for us but he is not anywhere near say a Shearer and for 75 to 90 million (and that before Neymar took the market to another level) is what you would expect.

However one man's rubbish is another's treasure so I can understand why there is a split in our fan base. He has some very impressive goalscoring stats but apart from the Chelsea fa cup game and the one chance he put away when we drew at city I can't remember him really bossing a game against a top side like he should. I don't think anyone can say he is getting any better than he was years ago either, which should be an unspoken rule as a player enters his prime years.

The bile in this thread is unbelievable, he has a 1 in 2 record since he has been there but apparently that's not good enough because he doesent work hard like tosun.

His loss has hurt this club massively, I guess people just really really miss him

Why not go on RAWK? That's your site kopite. Enjoyed watching that tonight.

Oh my life, I've just remembered the posts after Southampton saying they'd rather have Tosun than Lukaku.

Hahahaha.
