Romelu Lukaku

I just don't understand why anyone would want to get rid of one of the most consistent goal scorers in Europe - especially when you see the state it's left us in now.

Because he was never going to stay, you can't move on when one of your players has one eye on the exit door. Should have got more dollar for him though, state of that deal in retrospect.

He’s a fantastic striker. Probably the best we had in 30 years at Everton.

My problem is this. It was apparent very early on that he is such a talented striker and would go on to achieve success and instead what did some (a minority to be fair) do? Became dead critical about him and pick apart a striker who was barely 20 years old.

Then once that apparent talent shone and the goals with it a % of those critics were so entrenched in their opinion that they couldn’t do the most basic of all human humility and admit they were wrong. So then it became a battle of wills as their arrogance stopped them from admitting what was in front of everyone’s eyes every week.

Do you think that this type of toxic behaviour in the fanbase is going to help or prohibit young players? Or indeed any new player to the team and league?

The vaulting on here is of course a big piss take as every single one of us has been wrong talking about footie in our opinion, and probably often. So it’s no big thing. But the vaults seem to irk most those same people who are arrogant in their opinion and often aggressive in communicating with others when pulled on it. Hopefully though it will make some think on next time that no matter your opinion it’s not a fact, that will allow more reasonable debate and a better forum atmosphere.

Whilst all that is a shame it’s not the biggest shame, that being that for 4 years we had one of the best young strikers and failed to build a team around him. I appreciated Lukaku when he was here and enjoyed every one of his goals. I hope you did too.

If he's "playing terribly" then the superb form of United has proven conclusively that the significance of his all-round game being weak is dwarfed by that of his goalscoring. This penny should really have dropped for everyone at some point during the 4 years he was here when it was made blindingly obvious, but, unfortunately, for many it didn't.

It has been proven beyond doubt that what is most important for a lone striker, by a country mile, is scoring goals.

Only a fool would continue to obsess over first-touch and back-to-goal play at this point.
Actually his first touch and hold up play has been pretty good at Manchester. People are just so focussed on it that when he messes it up it gets immediately highlighted.
Anyway. Last year ManU's midfield couldn't score. Now they're scoring like crazy. With Lukaku as a focal poitn and not Ibra.

But yeah, let's be happy we got rid of him and keep on hoping for a better striker who lets the team play better and the midfield score more???
