Ronald Koeman discussion

So are you a fan of the 3-5-2?

I admit it does have it benefits, the only issue I would have with our squad is the fact that Stones looks off, so we would need lots more CBs, which isnt a major issue cos The Mosh is our lord and saviour, the main issue is the 5 Wingers we have in the squad, 3 of which I would ideally like to see play football.

I prefer 5-3-2 or 5-2-3 tbh mate but not as a preferred option with this squad! 4-1-4-1 all day long with our team.

I'm afraid I struggle to treat your thoughts on formations with the respect they would otherwise deserve then mert.

Its sadly just my way, I never care which side my CBs or in the case of 2 CMs I dont care which side I place them, I trust the manager to stick them on the right side, along with never using apostrophes and using the word your for all uses and many, many other glitches in my matrix its just how it is Friend.

What I lack in grammar I make up for with footballing tactical knowledge.

It's great hearing him talk about what needs improving as well as what they're doing well

Barnsley 0-3 Everton: Barkley goal gives Koeman a flashback

New Blues boss knows all about young Scouser's talents

Ross Barkley gave his new Everton manager a flashback yesterday - and now Ronald Koeman wants to see more from the young Blues midfielder.

Barkley scored a stunning third goal in Everton's 3-0 friendly match win at Barnsley, and Koeman said the left-footed strike reminded him of one he struck last season.

"It was a great goal and it's a great quality if you can shoot with your right and then shoot like that with your left, too," he said.

"I remember him scoring a goal like that last season, I think it was in midweek in a home match. I remember it because Erwin was watching and he scored like this.

"He did well, but it's the first 45 minutes for him."

Koeman wants to see other qualities from the young Scouser now, too.

"What I want to see is that he moves in the midfield, takes good positions between the lines and of course, with his last pass, give good balls," he added.

"He gave a good pass through for Gerard to score."

"And it was hard working from Lennon who won the ball and that is what you need, because the pace Gerard has up top makes it difficult for defenders."

After a 1-0 win in last weekend's behind closed doors friendly in Austria against FK Jablonec, Everton kept another clean sheet against their Championship opponents.

Koeman added: "The clean sheet is not the most important thing but it gives confidence to everybody, especially defending set plays.

"We had some more tall people playing today, but maybe we were a bit lucky not to concede a goal at times but it was a good workout with some good football," added the Blues boss.

"We created a lot of opportunities and we scored three goals and that's good. That's what you like to see.

"We can do some things better. We can communicate more than we did today but okay you have to understand it is only the third week of the pre-season and every game we need to improve individually and as a team.

"In the second half we controlled the game totally and that was good. I liked that.

"Defensively we had no problems in the second half."

In sweltering temperatures in Yorkshire Koeman added: "It's always difficult to press and be mentally sharp in heat like this but we spoke about it.

"We want to press from the front and sometimes it is difficult for the strikers because they are not that type of players who like to press always, but they need to do it.

"It's good. it's training and we need that kind of exercise."
