Ronald Koeman discussion

There's not much difference is there really?

I like direct play as a weapon to be used within a more expansive game built on constructing moves on the ground. There's a place for it, as Arsenal prove with Giroud each week etc. What we have is JUST a long ball approach.

Direct, fast paced football, based on power and pace, not once did I mention long ball.

Other than the 20 odd pass and move that set up Gana to blast over from 6 yards, give it a full season Dave to establish just what our approach is.

Yes mate, I get his words. I just dont see an awful lot of diversity in approach. No doubt against an awful and limited outfit like Hull we'll try and play to feet a bit more, but mostly we have seen back to front footy.

Another thong: I want us to have our own style and method and not have to adapt to other club's strategy too much. We need an identity.

I'm not a great fan of a single "philosophy" , particularly after our last leader.

Id rather our style and method be pragmatism. Doing what it takes to win each game.

In any case as we get better players the football is bound to get more joined up and attractive (even under dour Moyes, by virtue of having Arteta and Bainaar we played some pretty joined up stuff at times)

We'd be a few places ahead in the table and still hopeless. That's the only way I'd assess it.
Clearly.

I understand you're motivated by a desire not to be proven wrong. It's easier not to be proven wrong if you hang your claims on something subjective like performance, rather than the only metric that counts. The undeniable objectivity of our points tally.

No diversity mate? In the second half alone against Leicester we scored from two massive hoofs and also would have scored the team goal of the season had Gana not missed (another) sitter.

People seem to have forgot the 50 passes that led to that move.

Personally I've noticed a lot more diversity in our last 3 games and hope to see it continue tonight.

All with a rotten squad of players. Well, not all of them. But some of them.

few and far between that stuff mate.

We actually did more move construction early in the season than now. The players just did what they were bought to do off their own bat and played it to feet. It's taken this long for Koeman to knock that ball playing out of them by and large.

Towards the end of Moyes time here he added a little bit more combination play to go along with the largely route one game. That's what we can expect at best under Koeman. It wasn't good enough back then under Moyes and its not good enough now either.

People will tire of this style really quickly.

People will only tire of inadequate results. Very very few people would complain if we keep winning playing this football.

Depends if it gets us results...

The metric that counts is league placing and cup wins. I don't see Koeman advancing our best finishes under our two previous managers, that's for sure, and that is directly based on the subjective matter of his way of playing the game. It's safe and its dour...and safe and dour win nothing.
