Ronald Koeman discussion

I find more tiresome the posters who drag davek into the same discussion over and over and seem to forget the last time they exchanged posts with him on the same topic.

For me his stance or stances are normally clear. He agrees the boss should be given time. He doesn't however feel that absolves him from being criticised in the meantime. He feels that his big wage means he should be under even more scrutiny than normal. He likes to make fun of the idea that Koeman was supposed to, and by some is percieved to have fixed the defense since Bobbys time as most seemed to think it should be easy.

On top of that, he definitely will go a bit overboard in his criticism of the new boss in reaction to those who he feels went overboard in putting the boot into the old boss and continue slating him at every turn.

There's plenty of decent points made amongst the agenda-driven wum type stuff by Davek.

He turned a build eye on Martinez's ineptness though. No mention of 22 wins out of 75, keep coming back to his first season and use it as a source to mob our current manager. I for one think Koeman is a much better manager than Martinez. Look at their PL records and their budgets.

.....the league doesn't lie, we have a mid-table team we have a set of players that are not good enough to achieve much else. It wouldn't matter if Guardiola or SAF was in charge, they are not good enough to take us to the next level so change is required.

RK might not show passion, he might be cold, he might be ruthless and he might make substitutions and introduce tactics that we think are odd but he's got to make significant changes to the playing personnel. He should be judged on the team he builds and if that isn't good enough he'll be gone.

I'm not defending him, I'm not attacking him but I think he's managing a major transition so let him get on with it.

Bravo good sir

He's come in after 6 months and called out all the utter shitters we've acquired in this squad in the past 5 years and said they need replacing, and meanwhile actually has us 7th with this abject bunch of misfits that no one else in the league would have. I'm made up with him me.
Don't swear please.

Well said

Getting very boring, hearing the same rubbish trotted out about Martinez as a means to attack Koeman.

Martinez got given a squad regularly in the top 6/7 some of whom had finished 4th.
And in two years managed to turn them into a bottom half of the premier league squad. Amazing management skills.
What he managed to do in his first season owes more to Moyes than it does to him.
HIS SQUAD, that he built and trained and prepared created a team that could barely win at home and an atmosphere that was so toxic, home and away, that he had to be removed.

Koeman got given a squad who were in the bottom half, twice, and has managed to get them to be 7th at the mid point of the season. I'd say that was progress.

And before anyone goes whining or whinging about this not being the Martinez thread......don't keep bringing up "record points" rubbish and not expect that to be demoloished. Any credit that was gained in his first season was more then wiped out by what happened in the rest of his time here. Thank god for Moshiri because without him we would probably be below Hull in the table playing crab football under Martinez.

Spot on this. What's more, some may point to a pile of poo and said it is in fact a gold mine.

Martinez's third season free fall started this time last season. 18 points from 18 games till the D day on 12 May. On the other hand, Koeman will keep picking up points and achieve his target this season.

The evidence was all there to see. Jags's legs have gone. So have Barry's. If both start against southampton then for me it's clear Koeman is not as ruthless as he needs to be.

Who said anything about an overload? I simply wonder if some members have decided to create the the persona of Davek to wind people up. It seems to work, thread's go crazy once he starts spouting his hypocritical nonsense like clockwork. In any event I'm still sure he's just a WUM and the garbage he writes on here isn't his real opinions. Just what he says to get reactions.

Mate, there's an element of wummery in what Dave does, but he's a good lad and he's only giving his opinion. Relax for christ sake

Ye I probably did go a little OTT with that. I'd had a few to drink! Tbh most of his views on other issues tend to be sound, only when it comes to Koeman and Martinez does the WUM type theme always follow. I just find myself very irritated that he ALWAYS pops up after every defeat and seems to reveal In it.

Haha, not recommended. Sometimes I wish my PC had a breathalyser. I know Dave's style is not for most, but it's not fair to say he only comes on here when things are bad. In fact, results that counter his worldview historically fuel him, his output typically becomes that of a cocaine addict brainstorming ideas for films. He just hasn't been as active in the last few months generally as he normally is, hard as it is to believe sometimes

I'm not having a go at him for not being in here all the time like! I'm sure he's a sound fella. I just find it curious that you can set your watch that he would materialise after a bad result. It's just very interesting timing that he always finds the time to talk at great lengths only after bad results.

I know drinking and talking on here is always a bad idea!

Are you really comparing Koeman to those mangers who have had millions spend on their squads over the last 3 years
We're 7th, finishing higher is impossible. And how can you compare him with managers who have far better players???

Look, you don't think that I expect us to win the league or even finish in the top 6 this season, right?
I am not comparing us with the likes of Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool or Tottenham. It is way to early for that and would be unrealistic. However, we have to move upwards to close the gap between us and the teams above us and so far this hasn't happened.
But I have to compare his managerial skills to those of their managers. Salary wise he is very close to Conte, Klopp or Pochetino. My concern at this moment is that he still hasn't shown that he can take the best out of what he has. "Horrendous" or not, our players are far better than those of Bornemouth, Watford or Hull, yet we constantly fail to subdue such teams. Simply hoofing the ball isn't the best strategy with the players we have.
Having said that - I really believe that Koeman must be given enough time and at least two more transfer windows to show what he has. But I expect to see signs of improvement come March and a much better team next season.
