How good is Koeman? And can he take us to where we want to be?. I must admit I'm a little concerned about his ability as a manager, when we got him I was over the moon he did well at Southampton and he was a great player in Spain and as he's well known I thought he could attract very good players to Everton. I know it's still early days but I've seen little improvement on the pitch since Martinez went and his signings haven't exactly been what I thought they would be, Gueye has proved to be good buy I knew very little about him before, as for Bolasie I always thought he was a good player but no more than that, but I did expect a lot better player coming. At the moment I can't really see how we are going forward, our league position looks ok but the best teams are all getting away from us and we are just really best of a rest, which in all honestly are pretty poor. I'm not sure he really had the passion we require from a manager and his body language just doesn't seem right, I really hope I'm wrong but this whole Everton project thing isn't really getting me very excited about the future of EFC.
All good points, expressed in a fluid manner, if only other anti-Koeman posters acted in this manner.
To address your points, the mans a winner, he won trophies galore as a player and has been fairly successful in his managerial career, is he a top, top coach? Possibly not, is he the right man to take us forward? Yeah I think so, hes taken over a club in transition, we need to get back to the best of the rest place we held before Martinez took us over the cliff, so hes got, currently 3 years to take us back to the peak of "tier2" and then hope we can break through that ceiling above.
Prior to his appointment I called him the Dutch Moyes, can you recall how we all thought if only Moyes had a little bit more money he could break the glass ceiling? Well now we get a chance to see a better manager have a a pop at it.
The clubs above us are all much further along in their projects, in the case of Manchester United, Arsenal and even Liverpool they are all 20+ years ahead, these 3 clubs have invested in the right areas, all have excellent stadia and very impressive balance sheets, City and Chelsea also have some mighty fine digits and Spurs have done well in the transfer market and built a very impressive side.
Now thats all just excuses you may say, what about Leicester you say, fine champions who made the whole league pipe down, but sadly for them, it would seem a 1 off "freak" season. But granted, it sounds like excuses, I prefer reasons, theres a gap in the league, this season is about solidifying our position as best of the rest, next season should be about trying to at least get amongst the top 6 and the season after that hopefully getting amongst the top 4.
None of that will be easy, it will require sound investment and a massive improvement both off and on the pitch, so to go back to your point, is Koeman the right man to take us to where we want to be? Im not sure, ask me again in 3 years.
