Ronald Koeman discussion

Taken on a side which was bereft of confidence and heading down the table and has them in 7th place.

Yes the football isn't Barcelona and sometimes he hasn't played the game when it comes to having the right soundbites to please the fans, but we are a much better team than when he first arrived. Give the fella time, we're going in the right direction.

Everyone's entitled to moan, it's a forum and it's what we do but if you don't recognise there's been a significant improvement on last year then you're on a complete wind up.

Made good subs, especially Valencia and taking Ross off to the standing ovation, but Cleverley should never have been on that bench today.

His starting eleven with Calvert-Lewin and Davies seemed to be a middle finger to Southampton banging on about him not giving youth a chance, but so be it - it was the right call, so whatever way he arrived at that decision it's fine by me.

Good result but should never have been in doubt against a team that had two days less to prepare for games over the Christmas period than we did. They ran out of steam in the last quarter of an hour or so and that's what won it for us.

Spoke to a Southampton fan after the game and he was wondering why nothing happened until 70 minutes, told him that's what Everton do now

Koeman needs to get the team firing from the first minute, otherwise a good result against a poor team who we should be beating, but we all know those are the games Everton find the hardest! And I believe Koeman just equalled Robertos number of games won at home for last season so definitely going in the right direction
