Ronald Koeman discussion

Southamptons second half of last season was fantastic. If we can replicate that we could be in for a good finish.
what seems to be conveniently forgotton is that Koeman had southampton in touch with 4th place in the league, only around 5 points off it come may.

Granted it was a poor league last year and the points total was nowhere near the level that it may be this year, but it proved that his team kept pace with both city and united last year right until the end, which is not too shabby from a manager. For him to recreate that sort of points total would see us in europe next season, which is a massive step up on previous 2 years.

We'll see mate

I get the sense he wants us to play more technical football, but he'll also take what he can get when the chips are down

That's just good old fashioned pragmatism

If we can win playing nice looking togger, he'll do that, and if we have to get stuck in and play it up to the big man, he'll do that as well

He's showing a flexibility in his selections and tactics that I wasn't expecting

Playing the kids, changing the formation, bringing on attacking subs and trying to mix it up instead of focusing on just one game plan, as opposed to refusing to change it whatsoever because he won't abandon his "vision"

It's dependant on who we bring in over the next two windows, but I think Ronald Koeman isn't going to be satisfied with us just playing route one stuff, he's going to want us to have more feathers to our bow

Again, I'd watch this space
Well we'll see. There's a lot of ifs involved in that.

I dont say categorically that he cant change the way we play to a more bearable style, I just dont expect it from what I've seen of him so far. And that's all you can do: judge what you see rather than what is believed to be in his locker waiting to come out.

I also think he's got a track record of being a feast or famine manager. Long periods unbeaten followed by long periods when he cant buy a win. That, I think, will be his undoing far more than any disgruntlement with an up and under style (which to be fair he probably senses many of our fans weaned on the Ferguson years - and merely tweaked by Moyes in his time here - actually prefer).

He should be measured thecsame as any other Everton manager, on trophies and proximity to the top 4. His first season he needs to rebuild but he can't just have us cruising in 7th for three years. He needs to challenge the top 6 above him as both Moyes and Martinez did. Looks out of reach this season but after January and the summer there should be no excuses why we can't accumulate the number of points needed to get up there.
I dont sense that is a priority anymore. In all the assessment of Koeman there seems to have been a firm view that's been settled upon that he needs only take back on a consistent basis the 'best of the rest' crown we had under Moyes.

I doubt theres anything other than a small minority now who look at where we are and say that it's imperative we get in the mix for a CL spot in the next few seasons. There's a majority view, imo, that holding onto the coat tails of the 6 clubs above us while the stadium situation is taken care of is the objective.

Standards appear to have been lowered to a point that his two predecessors would not have been allowed to remain at.

@hktoffee when are you going to dog through the vaults and release the pain on @Prevenger17 as you keep threatening to do?

He is pro-Koeman now is he? Why did he keep calling Koeman a man-baby?

I think I might lay my cards out on the table early here. Koeman OUT
Prevenger17
He hasn't a clue what he's doing, a patchy management record at best and, most unforgivably, looks like a man-baby.
Prevenger17
I'm not a big fan of Koeman's, and I found his appointment to be uninspiring (I still do).
Prevenger17
I do not like Ronald Koeman. I didn't and don't think he's the right manager for us and, worst of all, he has the head of a baby...My bet is that Ronald won't work out and will leave us in a fairly mid-table mediocrity. My deep, deep hope is that my complete ignorance of football is leading me to this conclusion and that I will be proven spectacularly wrong. Give the man-baby time.
Prevenger17
...I don't rate Koeman if I'm honest...
