Ronald Koeman discussion

Look I am hoping for an incredible run, but if we end up 7th and scraping into the Europa based on other random cup results with a points haul comparable to Bobby, questions need to be asked. We've got half a season to go and I'll reserve judgement, but it's all been a little underwhelming, no?
He's been in the job for 6 months.

“You need time to put your stamp on things, you’re never going to do it within three or four weeks. You won’t even do it in three or four months, you need about a full season to get your point across properly."

Paul Lambert

I don't know why everyone expects instant, results, our greatest manager struggled initially , Ferguson nearly got the axe at united, and those two started on a much more level playing field.
Well, the decks are cleared now of any distractions seeing as our season's interest in a Wembley trip has been ended. He can now "get his point across".

Not sure publically slamming them was the right move, I very much doubt he will get a positive reaction from most of this squad

He's basically told them he wants to replace them, Would you work hard for a manager that didn't rate you and criticised you in public?
Agree that it might not seem the cleverest thing to do. That said, those players stopped working hard about 2 years ago.

The squad that got 5th a couple of seasons back. Now we should expect no more than 7th from them.

Brilliant.
Come on mate, you can't compare like that.

Other teams have strengthened, players get older, we've had a regime shift.

You can't tell me the likes of Barry, baines, jagielka etc should be operating at the same level as they were 3 seasons ago.

Like people are saying, it takes a year to put your stamp on a team. It took Klopp most of a season at the RS, they were rubbish last year. It took Martinez a year to ruin our defence. I don't like Koeman's attitude but , at the risk of being racist, that's what you get with a Dutch manager.

I reckon if we don't get the targets he wants in this window he'll walk regardless.

I hope so.

I don't want to see him sacked but if I could turn back the clock again I wouldn't apoint him either. It's been massivkey underwhelming and I don't trust him with this budget we're alleged to have.

If he walks I'd be relieved as there's so much about his first 7 or 8 months I don't like and very little that I do.

A number of key members of the squad who finished fifth have depreciated over the past two and a half years and others have left or came in.
I appreciate that, but Gueye and Williams are an upgrade. We should at least expect the core of players plus those two to offer some semblance of a football team that knows how to pick a pass to each other. They are a team that can find feet. But Koeman prefers they dont. That is our problem. The confidence on the ball has been coached out of them.
