Ronald Koeman discussion

The publicity alone is fine by me, for years some Evertonians (including me) have not been happy with Kenwright and Co, it was only the other week, after 16 years, their poor management was highlighted on the Guardian. Ironically at a time when they're progressing. Any exposure to this is better than the metaphorical pat on the head, the media have given us over the past decade.

Why? What will it achieve?

Do you think the board will now go "Oh crap, Koemans called us out, Better start doing our job better"?

What's the actual issue here? We're out of 2 cup competitions, one we've never won and one we haven't won for 21 years. We are sitting in 7th in the league after a poor run of form.
Some posters are showing the same form as last year where one victory for Bobby was hailed as the best thing since sliced bread are now claiming one defeat for Ronnie is enough to prove he's out of his depth.
He's 18 points away from proving whether the decision to get him was correct. I'd expect more but how many more will depend on signings this month. What does worry me is the loss of his signings at the moment and having to now work with what he inherited.

Baines has an ego. He lost his place under RM to Oviedo and even Galloway and he spat his dummy out. That was at least half the problem he had with Martinez.

Now we're stuck with him for another couple of seasons.

'kin great.
Have to disagree, I think out of all our first team players Baines has the least ego. If he was the big I am he wouldn't keep letting other players take penalties for a start!

My point is the fickle nature of the protest.

It was kopite-esque. An embarrassing moment in the history of this club that brought shame on whoever indulged in it.
Pah, calling match going Blues kopites for backing a player who said what they were all thinking. Utterly clueless

I've highlighted this before and its baffling

The league doesn't finish in Jan mate, We haven't finished 7th, We could easily finish 11th again

The only thing you can truly compare Koman and Martinez right now is the cups and Koeman has bombed us out of both against two poor sides at home

People keep bringing that up but a cup run doesnt tell me anything about a manager. You're overrating it just because we won some games in the cup. It wasnt martinez who won us the games and it wasnt because of koeman that we are out of the cup.

As people have indicated last night, for me it's not the comments that are odd, but the timing of them.

There will inevitably be a split of opinions on this now. Some will back Walsh, some Koeman, some both and some neither. From Koemans perspective I can see why Koeman is frustrated. He has joined a club who promised him lots and delivered little in the summer. We didn't get our targets and the squad was left lacking in key areas. He was expected to front this, the new expectation and deliver a side to finish towards the top end of the league.

In Walsh's defence, we did get some players in and it was his first window. At times this season Koeman has under performed, irrespective of who the board did or didn't manage to sign. As a rule the performance have been know better and we went on a winless run which was below expectations. Going out to Leicester and particularly Norwich in the cup will feel the same.

Either way, the time to criticise may have been after the summer window. It does seem very odd, that a week into January, having spent the most money in the league (or close too) having unveiled a player he chooses this moment. For me the Schneiderlin thing is a red herring. Had he been bought he would have struggled to be match fit anyway. Likewise in any negotiations we have, it is only going to make our job harder with that pressure. So I think it's a fair statement, but odd timing.

I think what you saw yesterday from Koeman was enormous anger at losing and perhaps his innermost frustrations that most managers keep hidden being leaked out. Much like the Watford game being an epiphany I feel this one will be too. Some players may well be finished as a result of the performance. This was the game that kept our season alive in any meaningful way.

It also suggests there is a gap, if not a rift between Koeman and those recruiting. How long this can go on for I don't know. I suppose it will depend on how well either improve their performances.

For me I don't want Koeman to leave, but if he were I wouldn't be gutted. He is obviously a good manager and there have been improvements but we are all well aware he is using us to get his next big job. I also think he reluctantly fits into the paradigm of what we are trying to do and what as fans we like to see, as opposed to being a natural fit. We like to see longevity, players being developed and lads from the youth ranks being given opportunities. He does do this, but I feel he does so reluctantly. I don't want him to go, but I don't think he will ever feel as natural a fit as Moyes or Martinez did for most of their tenure.

The only caveat I have to that though is that maybe he is the medicine we require. We didn't win much before. Maybe it's our own values that are the problem, not Koemans?

You think going public against you're boss instead of going to see him one on one makes you a strong character?

Its like slagging your manager off in work to HR without seeing him first

Yes he has put his job on the line by going public and wanting what he wants. You wouldn't want to bang a nail in with a spanner you would want a hammer. He is showing strength in his conviction. He knows what he wants and if he doesn't get it then he will point the finger and put everyone in the picture. We now know he wants what we want and that is action and quickly. Nothing wrong in that. Shows character

I agree with most of it but i don't believe all the talking that he uses Everton as a stepping stone. He just want succes with Everton thats why he signed. People seem to forget that coaches like guardiola and mourinho (and almost everybody else) only stay for a maximum of 4 years at a club so whats the problem if Koeman only stays for like 3 or 4 years??? That happens at every club.

No it really doesn't. Even if you agreed he should make such comments then you do it after a win. To do it after a defeat smacks of blaming other people for your own failings.

IMO it doesn't. He has been very clear that we have targets and been clear for ages. He wants it to happen quicker than the board are presently doing. Its all opinion and mine is he was bold and strong and refreshing. This board used to slaughter Moyes for not coming out in the open about Kenwright and now Koeman is he is getting slaughtered.

KOPITE-esque & GEORDIE behaviour...dear me David.

Such delicious popcorning, well done.

You're just upset because he doesn't light your candle as BOB did.

Give it time David, and your broken heart will mend...

He's NOT coming back Dave...ever. :(
