Ronald Koeman discussion

New stadium generating huge revenue, good manager who knows what he is doing. If spurs are vulnerable it will be because one of the big Spanish teams pinch one or two of their players.
As a club, we fell well behind when last they pushed on and nearly won the league.

Arnt they playing their home games at Wembley next season?

Bit of an unknown that. Lob in losing a player or two, Poch maybe being picked up by Barca/RM/etc etc. Could be a few surprises at The Lane.

It looks like he's worked out the best formation to suit our best players.

Holgate and Williams look very comfortable as part of a 3 - I feel like mori is an accident waiting to happen at times and he'd be the first defender I'd replace.

Baines and Coleman are better going forward than defensively and this system gives them more freedom to attack.

Having 3 in midfield (who all move!) allows Barkley more freedom and more passing options which allows him to dictate the play more.

Having 2up top keeps someone closer to lukaku to bring into play as he struggles when he's isolated.

Things seem to be coming together
I agree with this word for word. This system suits our players and benefits us both in defence and attack

...it's a pretty fair estimate that they've relaxed becuase there is no intensity about these games now - nothing at stake. It's just what these players do. They have skill, but they have no heart.

This may well be true...still a nice little run of success could build up confidence and 'heart' ready for the big push next season.

If you understand football and have even been involved in football you know that confidence is a massive part of a players make up.

Maybe these players are starting to believe in themselves again thanks to a decent manager who they can listen to and respect, as he has done far more in the game than the whole squad put together.

I am starting to believe he was 100% the right choice to move Everton in the direction where the new owner wants to take us.

The bed wetters who have called for his head in the first 5 months need to have a look at themselves and realise they would not be out of place supporting a club in black and white stripes.

He's been here 6 months of a PL season and after a bit of a rocky patch have come through with a bit of gusto. This is starting to look like his side now and once Gana returns to the fold and joins Davies, Scheiderlin and Barkley in midfield we could well be in a very good place.

Exciting times ahead if we don't do a typical "Everton" thing. Looks to me though that the whole mindset of the club is starting to look a lot more professional than sentimental.

Poch will never work for Barca and it's hard to see Zidane going anywhere for at least a couple of years. I could see him going to Bayern but again, Ancelotti has another couple of years there.

To be fair to the "bedwetters", they were ahead of the curve.

They understood football perfectly well enough to know the squad was not nearly as bad as many on here were alleging it was.

They maintained a new tactical approach was needed to get the best out of the players we had.

That is what we have seen and better results and more exciting football are the consequence.

With ten players whom were here last season in the starting line up in our last two impressive victories.

The "bedwetters" were calling out for the introduction of youthful legs.

Well, we have that now and look at the difference :)

Ronald has upped his game since the start of December and the team has reacted accordingly.

And like your good self Thomas, I am also starting to believe Koeman was a splendid appointment ;)

It was typical toys out of the pram, because we now had money and some had unrealistic expectations and used the first run of bad form to stick the knife in.

We obviously had some decent players as you say, they just needed a new direction and purpose after being grossly mismanaged for the previous 2 seasons. Looks like he is changing their mindset and adding his own pieces to the jigsaw as he goes along.

Rome wasn't built in a day as the old saying goes, let's hope this momentum keeps on and we are seeing a new Everton in all aspects of the club :)

The first three are all vulnerable.

I cant even believe anyone is making a serious claim that we have to judge coming 7th in a race for 4/5 places as acceptable.

This is Everton not Burnley or Stoke. We've been there and done it....and it better get done again soon.

If 7th is unacceptable this season, then 7th was unacceptable last year, and the year before. So please accept this David or I'm going to have to call you out.

So why did they keep banging on about making new signings and moaning that we didn't know the colour of Moshiri's chequebook ? That's been the number one topic among Everton fans I've spoken to this season, the desire to see new faces. And you're right, Koeman has turned things around largely by working with the players he inherited :

** Improved fitness levels (which paid off handsomely in the 2nd half the last couple of games)

** Barkley now playing to his potential, after Koeman does intensive work on his development and drops him for a couple of games.

** Switched tactically to three at the back

** Given young players a run in the team (Holgate at the expense of Jagielka, Davies at the expense of Cleverley and McCarthy, Lookman now getting used ahead of Valencia)

It's not just down to the players, Koeman has played a key role, let's give him some credit for this, and also recognise that this is a work in progress, it takes time to change things around, and he'll need more time to finish the job.
