Ronald Koeman discussion

Playing Davies because of Gueye's omission; playing Holgate because Jagielka's legs have exploded.

We know how it was supposed to go here: like at S'ton...which is what Koeman was indicating would happen.

The fact you see a plan should be the source of any giggling around here. Lol.
And him telling BARKLEY HOW IT IS. That was lucky how that worked out,Barkley now playing some of his best football in the last two years

Sad to see this forum continues to be tainted by a blatant WUM. It ruins it for the rest of us.

Onto Koeman. The recent good form aside, I'm made-up with the team spirit and togetherness. It is noticeable that when we score, the entire team celebrate together. That is down to the manager. Prior to the Leicester game, I felt that Ronko didn't quite get Everton. I was getting Walter Smith vibes. After the cup exit, he was hurt, big time. Underneath that tough exterior, he clearly has a big heart. I've warmed to him.

It is clear to see the players respect him, and are playing for him. He is starting to get Everton, and Everton is starting to get him. For the first time in a long time, I'm optimistic. It's just a pity that getting behind the manager and team is alien to some on here, preferring to heap their negative bile onto everyone else.

For most, this isn't an issue. Most can confidently discuss Ronald Koeman and remain on topic.

But could those who are tempted to bait other members simply to talk about Martinez, please do so in the Martinez thread.

If it's locked due to a period of inactivity, give one of us a shout and we'll reopen it or tell you to start an new one. Here's a current one; https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/martinez-new-belgium-head-coach.90386/

Obviously some comparison and contrasting between Koeman and Martinez is understandable, the issue is those who go off on one, or simply want to goad a particular member, or both.

Anyway, Ronald Koeman, with his head like a wonderful grapefruit.

Sorry Grouch, I will adhere to this rule but have to say I don't agree with it.

What's wrong with talking about previous managers in the thread about the current one? I'm struggling to get it. Feels only natural to compare.

No issue with Dave-k I'm a great fan but I just don't get it.

Would it not be off topic to talk about Everton in a thread about the current Belgium manager also?

Its more the baiting of certain posters Ijjy, which has blown the thread way off course at times. (72 points, 5th is 17th, that sort of stuff)

Like you say, a natter about how the current back 3 works, versus how Martinez tried it has merits, but lads coming on and lobbing grenades designed to get a rise aint on.

TBF to Davek, he now patiently suggests those posts should be directed to a Martinez thread.

Fair enough mate.

In a Martinez related way, as in, "Hes got them playing like us in season 1, 2, 3 (delete as appropriate)" no probs, imo.

Like the bloke will always be an ex Everton manager, so references will always be around the corner. As they are with pretty much every ex manager.

But Martinez provokes certain posters to derail threads, to the detriment of everyone else. Nothing new gets posted, its just the same tired points going round in ever decreasing circles.

So in a response to numerous complaints/reports, we have asked for it to stop in this thread. Within reason.

So in a way we've all been warned mate ?

No, politely asked to stay on topic.

This is the Koeman thread. Folk pop in here to read/post about him.

Naturally, at times, OFM will be mentioned. It would be insane to think otherwise.

But baiting, non Koeman related posts about OFM are considered to be off topic.

We have said it for weeks, so unless you are new, it isnt, er, new news.
