Ronald Koeman discussion

Things have definitely improved, there's a good vibe about the squad at the moment, a couple of new faces and the rest of the season might actually get exciting if we can maybe catch 5th who knows.

Also the players have seen that if you're not up for it, you're out. Everyone in the squad was surprised to see Cleverley go, even Coleman stated it in an interview.

People expect us to magically compete in the league overnight despite the 6th best team in the league being able to finance both Ibrahimovic and world record pogba in the same window. We started with a 36 year old in midfield and Arouna Kone.

And 7th isn't good enough? Considering the quality of the squad, we should be made up to be comfortable in 7th. The fact of all our squad going to relegation teams speaks volumes in itself right now.

Things have improved.. but 7th is still where we'll finish, and overall that's about right given the level football we've produced.

If we look at the squad of the current top 6...see how much they had spent on fees and wages then 7th is just about right given the quality of the squad. Somehow if we manage to break the ceiling then Koeman is punching above the height like the old Moyes days when we got 4th-6th. The board have to continue to back Koeman and the overhaul of the squad means our days of breaking into top 4 will come, soon.

I would be happy with 7th, might sneak into Europe depending on the cups as well (I know some might not agree but that would be a good thing in my humble opinion). We have, however been able to close the gap a bit and it has given us a bit of a sight of maybe higher.

I think it is the old cliché, 'one game at a time' and see where we are at with 5/6 games to go. I reckon we will have dead rubbers as will be too far off 6th and too far ahead of 8th but you never know.

Koeman has been a breath of fresh air with his tinkering when things don't look right and the man management of Barkley looks like it is going to be spot on.

You are 100% correct.

What in Satan's glorious name is this? A well considered argument as to why our current performances matches our ability, defining clear and objective reasons as to why we should be happy with our current situation all things considered?

Wow. That's a rarity.

It's been said over and over though. The sense gets drowned out though as we all know.

Great to see some positivity!!

If we can put a run together there is no reason why we can't do this. The RS are only 9 points ahead.

The Mancs were 10 ahead and now its only 5.

There are 16 games to go and that gap can be filled...

There will be plenty of ups and downs in the games remaining.

Overall I think we are on an upward curve and Koeman's thinking and methods are beginning to have an impact, amplified by the emergence of Davies and Holgate, and the new signings. I will be particularly interested to see if our fitness levels can be maintained throughout the bulk of 90 minutes, and am very encouraged that we are finishing games strongly.

We have won three on the bounce and given the famine we have had to endure for 2 1/2 years, renewed confidence and optimism is great but it is just three games.

For me, its actually not where we'll finish as such but how well we play to accumulate the final points total we achieve, we should be aiming to get 60+ points which will be a very decent return especially considering how bleak things looked after the Watford game.

We are not in a position to threaten the top 6, that is something that will take more time and plenty of money. Underlying weaknesses that have not been addressed (1st choice GK, New CB, Creativity from midfield, Backup striker (or two)) have not gone away.

Under the previous regime, there was self-congratulatory back-slapping for the "achievement" of a Top 6 finish. I really hope Koeman, Walsh, and Moshiri are all on the same page with expectations for the coming years. For me it is CL qualification as a minimum provided Koeman is backed to achieve it.

Let's complete the stabilisation this year, get more of our target signings early in the summer and see what can be achieved.

I want to be in the Europa League because I love midweek games and boss European aways, but I can kind of understand why the non-match going fans wouldn't want to be in it.

I don't understand them.

Personally, I just can't get enough of Everton and I wake up every match day, whether I am going the game or not, like an exited child on Christmas morning :(

The more matches the better as far as I am concerned ;)

And I must admit I fell in love with Thursday night football.

I started going in the Gwladys for them and I had some great nights out in town after those matches.

There was great craic with Swiss lads after the Young Boys game down O'Neill's pub

I really hope we make the EL next season (though I do believe 4th place is very much in play and we have a better than forlorn hope of sneaking it ;)).

Same mate, it's like people who complain about the Christmas fixtures and the fact we don't have a winter break. Sack that, who doesn't love wall-to-wall footy?
