Ronald Koeman discussion

Look, it's a well known stat that teams involved in that competition struggle badly in the PL. Is that what you want next season?

2007 6th No Euro
2008 5th Euro
2009 5th Euro
2010 8th Euro

So under Moyes we qualified for Europe 4 times and only once did it result in a drop of league placing, infact twice, we improved our league position in seasons in which we played European football.

I wont include 2006 cos I dont consider losing in a play off round European football.

Be careful what you wish for.

If Everton do qualify for that midden of a competition and we struggle in the PL I'll be there to remind you that you wanted it when you bemoan another Sunday afternoon no show performance away to Middlesbrough or some such outfit.

You seem to be happy with this in the last 2 seasons, to be fair.

EL is a cup competition. A way to win a trophy for this club. If you are begging on the domestic cups SF medals why did you try to disregard the EL?

Nah, poor teams who shouldn't be in there like fluke cup winners Wigan Swansea etc. and Martibez's Everton struggle the season after. Good teams like ours under Moyes 07-10, Spurs the last few seasons, don't struggle with juggling the Europa league.

Very very unlikely.

As said, it's not just a mathematical thing, it's a matter of pressure. If this lot came within striking distance of a CL berth they'd implode. It's in their DNA. They are good enough to at least pressurise the top 5/6, but they are suspect mentally.

All this talk of finishing higher than best of the rest: where is it coming from? The last few games may have produced wins but the form of this team isn't going to go from erratic to solid all of a sudden I suppose there's an attempt to make the last 16 games feel like they have significance, I understand that. But there really is not much to see here until August next season, imo.

Think that's a big reason the boss is trying to shift a huge amount of the main bottlers mate.

Next 4 games will tell us if there's owt to play for this season, win all 4 and close with those above and will get a whole lot more interesting.

See those two seasons with EL competition (2007/08 and 2008/09)? That was with Moyes' second settled side he'd built. Stability was there...and we also needed to get a catch up in those seasons because we were well off the pace early doors with that stupid competition in play. See the 2009/10 season? That fall off was because Moyes had break up his team to pay debts.

My point is solid concerning that competition and PL seasons.

Lol. We won't win the EL.

Go and take a look at our seasons and their contours when we played in that EL...the devil is in the detail.

And @MoutsGoat @hktoffee @Saint Domingo and others...Fellas, this discussion about the merits/debits of Everton being in the Europa League is interesting... and maybe worthy of its own thread rather than being something of a diversion in the Ronald Koeman thread ?
Cheers.
