Ronald Koeman discussion

For me...

Koeman and Walsh need to focus on keeper and defence...it needs alot of improvement.

Centre midfield looks good if we keep McCarthy, if not we need another Davies.

Interestingly, in the attacking midfield, Barkley, Lookman and DCL all have time on their side but we could add one more in there + need someone to push lukaku.

Still a lot of work to be done even if current results are great

Correct.

I invented the angled pass.
You had your protractor out Dave?

In your experience, at what degree does an angled pass become a forward/backward pass. 45? 75?. Or can it only truly be regarded as forward if it's exactly 90?.

We'll have to get Ross and Rom working on true alignment in training.lol We don't want to become a team associated with angled passes. The Park End just won't stand for it.

No mate. I watched HK take us to glory and though he was no soft touch and could swing the odd verbal haymaker he didn;t need t revert to that. He;s what I call 'Everton class'.

Imo, Koeman's antics are more suited to a Liverpool manager: arrogant and full of themselves and taking people down in public. That's not our way and never will be. Just my opinion like, I hope thats ok.

I see no evidence he "takes people down in public". He gets asked a question by a journalist and gives a straight answer.

He is a master of man management. Even his "treatment" of Niasse is honest straight down the line telling him he is not in his plans and suggesting he leave so he can have a decent career elsewhere rather than sit in the reserves taking his salary.

I suspect Koeman is more balanced in his treatment of players than say Catterick was and none of us would moan at that (I hope)

I disagree. If you dont play a forward pass that isn't on it's the right thing to initially do: the quickest route between two points - the ball and the goal - is a straight line. Why over-complicate that?
If the quickest route to your work from home is through two corn fields and a swamp you would drive through then? Or out for a stroll don't step around the post box better to walk right through it.

It's not a matter of playing forward passes or angled passes, it's a matter of playing the best pass available, both Morgs and Ross are doing exactly that, and every Everton fan should be delighted with both.

Dave the only typical manager we need is a winning one - nothing else matters hence why most of the fan base craved Jose.

Keeper is deffo going to be sorted, one way or the other. Has to be said though that Joel is playing very well.

Central defence is also a priority area. We're dead keen on Keane. I think we may move for VVD come summer, but I'm not sure we'll have much luck...

Central midfield could lose one of McCarthy and Besic mate, and still be full of quality due to the emergence of Davies. I'd rather they all stay though...

Definitely looking for a 'second striker' type as well. Someone who can function in any role across the front line, including out wide if needed.

The three priorities in my book are.

CB - for the first team.
GK - for the first team (Joel may decide on this like, but do think we'll get a 'big' name in).
Striker/Winger combo - for the first team and as an alternative to Rom. Think Mane-type player IMO.

That's presuming all of the key first XI players stay come summer.

Then, two more additions which would be very welcome are of course a back-up left-back (suppose this could depend on Galloway's progress come summer, though I do think it's an are we'll target) and a playmaker***

Jags and Lennon will almost certainly be moved on, as will anybody currently out on loan that isn't a youngster. Deulofeu is up in the air. If he impresses in pre-season, he may have a chance.

***If Del impresses, he may stay. Kev could be moved on if this is the case or even if Del leaves as well tbh. If both them and Lennon did go we'd look to add a playmaker/winger.

His demeanour and methods of handling the players reminds me a bit of Catterick, who was respected rather than loved.
If he's only half as successful as Catterick was then we'll have done all right.

He also reminds me a bit of Gordon Lee though.

To me, he looks wide all the time instinctively. Ironically Martinez would have been delighted with him. Compare that to Barkley who instinctively looks for a forward pass. That's the difference in quality. It's why @bluestevon 's analogy with Carrick earlier is slightly awry, imo. Carrick was/is also a player who looks ahead and will only go wide as a secondary option.

You do know over half of his passes in the two starts have been forward passes don't you dave ?
75 out of 138 for reference.
