Ronald Koeman discussion

took them until December to get them fit but they are now as fit as they've been in 3 years. Physically fit = mentally fit and less mistakes made and playing to the end.

took a long time to win me over and I'm not 100% there yet but I can certainly see that he's working hard, is understanding what's required and I think personally he's hungry for success here because he knows we are a very big sleeping giant.
It's funny, you referred to us as a sleeping giant and I know koeman refers to us as 'a project' but ever since that arsenal game and the atmosphere that night, I have a feeling he now realises what it means to be an Everton manager and maybe initially he underestimated just how big a club Everton is.

I 100% agree mate. I honestly think he thought it would be less hassle, not too demanding, club with a decent past but a job like a Stoke or West Ham where he doubles his wedge.

It was the man utd home game for me mate. For an hour we were absolutely woeful, brings on Calvert Lewin, suddenly the fans are like "at last he's trying something different, raises the rest of the players and we suddenly start playing football, aggressive, effort and looking fitter culminating in Baines scoring a 90 minute penalty.

The Arsenal game mimicked the Utd game except we got in front and then had some unreal luck at the end but it was like a light switch where the players finally believed in themselves and in the method of Koeman and maybe even Koeman started to believe in the players and his method.

I think initially koeman commanded the respect of the players when he arrived, initially due to his stature in the game. Before the Spurs' game he questioned the fitness of players and frankly it's been a revelation since. The players have 'bought into' what he has asked of them, even if koeman doesn't strike me as a great man manager, more like a school headteacher overseeing his pupils. However fitness and a good work ethic will only get you so far, the addition of Davies and scherderlin has given us the added quality to make real progress.

Why is that not a realistic target?

Stop getting your excuses in early for this manager. They are 6 points we need to shoot for. No more going to those grounds with Koeman and hiding behind the couch (see City, Chelsea and Spurs away)
No ones saying it's not something to aim for.

But to state that in order to even START convincing you, he'd need to do something no Everton manager has done in two decades or more... (not sure when last time we beat them both away in one season was?) is ridiculous.

But then we both knew that already.

lol definitely like a headteacher mate, sometimes it's the discipline that is needed. I'm a massive critic of Ross, I thought Martinez coaching ( or lack of) was piss poor and for 4 months this season Koemans tough love had no answer. Late December on wards and Ross is playing without a care in the world but disciplined and with a lot of bite. Brilliant to see, that's the manager and coaching staff going to work on a player.

Brilliant again today Koeman, seen we were struggling in the 2nd half changed to a back 5. Got control again. They go down to 10 men

Moyes would of put on Hibbert.... Koeman throws on a striker and gets a 4-0 win.

Brilliant management
he seems to be capable of taking bold decisions, he took off Davis who was paling well but had just started to drift out of the game and put on an non glam striker. If it hadn't have gone well it would have been really easy to criticise him for it, "ha, dutch fruitcake, davis off-valencia on".
He's taken similar bold decisions earlier in the season too. I just hate the way he talks about Everton rather than we or us

Dan Taylor is usually very good but that, that is a load of garbage.
I know personally nothing about that journo but I can't see how the basic premise of the article is wrong. Koeman’s moved before the end of his contract multiple times to take "a step up" so it is a bit hypocritical of him to criticize Rom for the same. Particularly when Koeman himself said
Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career."
