Ronald Koeman discussion

Maybe another lesson learned by this feller will be to stop grandstanding at press conferences with his comments about how he's transformed matters psychologically.

He set himself up for a fall there with all his talk about players in the past two seasons being afraid of Liverpool as if he'd sorted that out. He placed a big weight on the players shoulders going into it and also practically wrote Liverpool's pre game talk for them.

Needs to belt up and let the players do the talking.
At least he's now found out that most of our players are sh1thouses, he asked them to step up to the plate and they sh1tout, it's not a big weight more a question of "Are you up to it?" and they have told us and him the answer we all knew.

Well we we've tried the underdog tag from moyes virtually every pre Derby press conference. Maybe koeman was trying to publicly instill some confidence into the players, sadly it backfired. Over the last 20 years it's staggering the 'hold' they've had over us. There must be hundreds of players who've represented the club in this period, some great, some good and some average players, but sadly the same outcome. Really don't know what the answer is. These same players have beaten the other top teams on a far more regular basis, but not the RS.

Yes maybe. And again if he does that'll be a lesson learned, because when he first tipped up here he was implying at every turn this was all about adding energy levels and that it was a piece of piss and that others who had them before should have done better with them.

As you say, now he's found out.

And he'll find out more about himself while he's here hopefully. He'll find out that you keep your grid shut and stop lashing out like a divvy and start quietly learning about the club you just joined and bend to their ethics and not try and impose yours.

As someone's said, they've usually had a better team than us over the last twenty years. Throw in the fact it's a derby game and their players are always giving 110% to the cause then it's a tough ask for us.

I agree with them being the better team, but not necessarily they give more effort. In terms of quality over this period we have 'bridged' the gap and managed to beat other top teams at goodison, but not them. Will we ever find an answer?

Probablity says we will but right now I just can't see it. We always talk about the likes of Blackpool beating them but their players\fans aren't treating games against those teams in the same way. It just makes a hard job even more difficult.

RK's remarks post-match were standard tactics to deflect another defeat especially with the MU game on Tuesday.

Can't say, having slept on it, that I feel any better just a bit stupid for having thought that matters had changed under RK.

The idea that one flank would comprise Pennington and Holgate beggars belief.

How about this: EFC have a top centre-forward so lets set up the team to get the best out of him. That means a winger and it also means
somebody who has to play up-front near-by so that player can give Rom a decent pass and feed a run. For me that means Valencia/Miralles playing all the time and Lookman/ Calvert-Lewis playing all the time. I understand that the players were crap yesterday and that no plan would
likely have worked but do you think that confidence among the senior players was high when they saw the line-up?

Another Groundhog Day in the life of EFC.
