Ronald Koeman discussion

"I spoke to Ross and his ambition is reaching the Champions League."

If that is the case, then young Ross will almost certainly be leaving this summer. We can't match the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, the RS, Man City and Man Utd etc in terms of transfer fees and wages and as such it will probably be a good few years before we're in the top 4.

The boy is offered 100k a week and says he wants champions league? I'm one of his biggest supporters but he was off the boil for a long time, November where was he for example....great this year but needs to keep it up

I'd like to give Ross the benefit of the doubt here. He wants champions league football but so would I if I played for Everton, I'd want it at Everton though and why wouldn't he. If I'm Ross right now I want assurances that my ambition is being met. We need to be bringing in players that take us to the next level in the summer. If we do that and go from 'best of the rest' to challenging for champions league I'm sure he signs the contract.

As fans, how frustrating was this summer hearing about how we were signing Mata etc. and then spending nothing except half the Stones money on a Crystal Palace player? Well imagine if you're one of Everton's best players and you're told you're gonna be linking up with world class talent only for the window to close with Bolasie and a failed Sissoko bid! I'm
Not surprised he's patiently waiting to see how things change. He'll be worried we sell Rom and replace him with subpar players too I'm sure.

(Also I know we signed Gana who is absolutely boss but this summer was still a massive disappointment)

To be honest, he can ask who our targets are and have a clause in the contract that we spend X amount in the next couple of summers of he will be able to leave for Y amount...ferguson used to tell his stars who was coming in the summer and they extended.

With regards to Ross I think he'll stay, I've always thought it and it's probably killing him that he can't come out and say it himself. However to do so would hurt his negotiating position and I respect his prudence in that regard. Also, if his current leverage does make the owner/board think they have to show ambition in the transfer market to keep him then all the better.

The "I want Champions League football" comment is always stupid. What footballer is going to say "Do you know what, I think I'd rather hang around a midtable team for 10 years and pick up my wedge."

It's also stupid because a team has to qualify every year. I bet hazard joined Chelsea thinking "I'm joining a champions league team" ... But then they finished 10th last season. A player who would choose arsenal over us would be doing so thinking they're joining a club with more chance of champions league, but it looks like they won't be there next year and may actually finish below us this season.

I think we are going to be a far more attractive proposition for players come this summer. Not only just getting European football, but the quality of the football being produced and if we could sneak a top 6 place, even better.
