"When we started we took our time to analyse the team and to do things differently because last season was not a good season,"

"Overall it's really positive. We had a great home record this season and we scored a lot of goals. In all aspects of football, the team has improved.

"Everybody likes to play in Europe. The best place to play in Europe is in the Champions League, but if you don't qualify for the Champions League then the Europa League can be interesting for the club, and that's what we want.

"The next step is to be closer to the teams above us in the table and that's sometimes difficult. Maybe it's now five, six or seven points, but we need to make the next step and the next step is Champions League."

"We will see what happens with Ross," he said. "We will see what happens with Romelu, but Everton is not about two players. Everton is about much more than that. We will sign new players and next season we will have a really strong team."

@davek Best of the rest? Doesn't seem it here.

Against 10 man he leaves the two ch's with worst distribution in the league, and brings on Barry, an improvement in last year and since crimbo has got a song out of Ross and Rom, snieds is a quality signing, gueye is okay, the rest have been poor, we have improved but I'm still waiting to be impressed, he's earned more patience but that won't and shouldn't last forever if this regime is as ambitious as they claim

I expect full dummy out the pram in the summer from this foreheaded one when he doesn't get what he wants and we go into a mad scramble on the last day of the window with a 15 man squad.

Koeman has managed to get the best of an extremely average side who's players suffer from delusions of grandeur. Until most of them are moved on, no manager will be able to really take us forward. Its all about reinvestment now, Koeman has been given a pass this season but I'll be a lot less forgiving next year. Providing he's given proper cash to invest I'll have a lot more expectations this time.

I just hope he's allowed to get who he wants, and perhaps more importantly they want to come here.
That's the core obstacle we face at the moment.

It's not all doom and gloom on that front, though.

Some European football is better than no European football, and we've improved markedly on last season. So it's going to be less difficult than it was last summer to attract talent.

But I do think we're going to need to throw a ton of money at the right players to get things moving.
