Ronald Koeman discussion

We haven't finished in the top 10 since 2014, so I really wasn't expecting us to qualify for Europe in Ron's first year in charge.

Our manager deserves a lot of credit, as do the players.
It's two years. You make "2014" seem like it was a decade ago. And we didn't really do anything to influence the "qualifying for Europe". It all depended on other clubs.

On a side note, one way or another, I don't think he'll be here by the end of next season

So the reason we're in Europe and Sunderland aren't is because UEFA just picked our name out of a hat?

Basically finishing 7th we earned the right to be in the reckoning to get Europa should 3 unlikely events occur in the same season. Not really the same as qualifying for Europe by getting into those top 6 places.

Decent recovery season after the mess that came before. Not much more than that.

2015/16 " I hate Martinez and all the positivity after a terrible performance . Wish he'd tell it like it is and hammer them , we can all see it. it's sickening, as if he thinks we'll fall for that "

2016/17 "I hate koeman and all that hanging out the players rubbish after a terrible performance. He should be protecting the players , it's sickening, as if he thinks we'll fall for that "

Great start had us believing. Terrible finish lost a lot of hope. Transfer window will tell all.
In hindsight we had a pretty easy start and a pretty difficult run in so that probably explains it.

At the end of the day we proved to be good at home against crap opposition and crap away from home against good opposition.

If Rom/Ross leave, we probable need to buy 6/7 starters in the window. Big order.

When we finished 5th, with pretty much the same side, with a team that was motivated playing for a new Manager. The team that dropped after that season was the same team that got us 5th, but became demotivated, couldn't defend and playing for a fraud of a Manager. Fast forward to now, new manager in charge of pretty much the same team that had the talent to play some great football and finish 5th, added a few players. 4 teams that finished above us last season, 3 of them were in freefall and finished outside the top10, Soton ended up about 17 points worse off. We won 4 games away from home. I don't think Ron deserves that much credit.

Let's put the season in perspective we finished above West Brom, it hasn't been a good season just better than last season, which doesn't take much. Personally I don't think much has changed, we put in some diabolical performances away from home this season, including today. To fail to get anything against 10 man Arsenal, after scoring in the 58th minute is pathetic. I'm still quite worried about the future as we still face losing our better players and having to rebuild again. Whether Koemann is successful time will tell, I haven't been overly impressed with Koemann, nor have I been overly unimpressed with him. It's just been an OK season, not a good one and not a bad one.
