Ronald Koeman discussion

Yes but at the same time they have already backed him heavily by paying over the odds for Gylfi and I suspect Koeman would have been the driving force behind the Klassen signing. Looks like we would have been better off not signing Klassen, keeping Dowell and then having more cash to address the number 9 vacancy

We'd have lose last night without him.

Dowell is doing great in the championship.

It's not about attacking all night. its about achieving some kind of balance. It was pure knife to gunfight tactics and we were fortunate that they went down to 10 otherwise things could have got out of control very quickly.

Wrong on so many levels; with the biggest hole in your theory being we played better 11 v 11.

And watch when Utd go there, and Chelsea and everyone else. They'll sit deep and try and counter, like we did.

I personally think he would try to put the game to bed if he had the chance to do it again. The thing I appreciate about Koeman is he usually changes things up if he feels he got something wrong, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches the Chelsea game.

Exactly
He changed formation against Stoke and admitted he got it wrong first half
He changed it again last night when it wasn't working
At least he's tactically aware and not afraid to call himself wrong
Our previous manager persisted with the same tactics wether we were winning losing or drawing.
It's how we compensate for Morgan missing that interests me.
Maybe A complete surprise in store there

The worse was the time Martinez made zero changes becaue we were getting beat and a combination of not wanting to accept he had it all wrong from the start and thinking we couldnt get back into it anyway, so he just let the game play out, total joke of a manager.

I like the way Koeman isnt fully happy when we get a good result, we need a manager like that to brake the top 4, you dont get far with a manager who thinks everything is good just because the points came in when it was a very fine margin

OK for all of those with big concerns about last night and how he set up to contain, does the fact we play in Croatia on Thursday then Stamford bridge on Sunday not even come into any consideration to you?

We were playing possibly the hardest of the 3 fixtures first, defeat could have set the mood for the rest of the week.

Instead, we come away with a point, I imagine feeling rather bullish and looking forward to the next challenge.

He wants perfection. Not only from his players, but from himself. Sometimes that leads to him overthinking some fixtures, but he got the game plan spot on last night. It's unfortunate we couldn't put the game to bed when we had the chance.

Basically this. Spurs wouldnt have turned up like that let alone Man Utd or even the RS.

We came there with the mentality of a West Brom or Stoke.

I don't know whether you've noticed mate, but look at our squad and then compare it to the likes of Spurs and United. There's a reason we needed to spend £200m to help us recover from the Martinez era, and we still need to keep spending to get anywhere near the top 6. We are not equipped to go out and try to outplay Manchester City, if you think we are then you're beyond deluded.

Sorry mate, that last paragraph has given me a migraine, can you summarise it for me ?
Sure, the TLDR version is making CL is not about beating the top 6, its about how well you play versus the bottom 13-14. The top 4 teams all had 5-6 losses, and about 4 of those were against the top 6, so they only lost 1-2 games versus the bottom 14, and we have to do that to compete for a CL spot.

Thanks, that's cleared things up nicely.

If you do another post like that, could I suggest using different coloured fonts if you can, to highlight the key areas.

It's always worked for Damo ;)

I was surprised and impressed with the way City pressed us for the 90 minutes. Very rarely did we have a player with time on the ball and that includes Pickford. They were all over us like a rash. We couldn't string many passes together due to this high intensity pressing. We still require better movement off the ball and play in 4's and 5's rather than 2's and 3's. Feel it will come once the players gel a bit more but very pleased with our defensive solidity at the moment.

And yet Moyes took dogs abuse for years for having a small time mentality ??

In the second half with City down to 10, they were dominating. I thought he was right to change it and try and give us more men in midfield and potentially chances to score a second. If Holgate had nodded that cross out for a corner like Jag in the first half, I don't think they'd have scored
