Ronald Koeman discussion

I think Koeman has implemented the style he wants and we're playing it

We aren't yet.

We found a good way of playing between Jan and April last year but unfortunately we burned out as soon as Rom's goals dried up.

The only time we've played the football Koeman wants us to this season IMO has been the first half vs Hajduk and the first half vs City - both different types of games.

It'll come. People have just got to be patient.

It's a pain in the hole knowing I've got to wait out another two seasons of this guy and then another transition season with whoever we get next, whilst winning nowt along the way.

He is doing okay, and of course should see his contract out unless it all goes badly wrong, but I am pretty sure it won't amount to anything and I wish to god we could go another direction already.

Prove me wrong Ronseal. Win us a shining trophy.

No matter who is in charge though, it is great to have Europe and extra Everton games. Hopefully we don't exit early in either of the cups as I want all Everton, all the time.

Few points on this 3 at the back nonsense:

  • Teams who play 3 at the back have 3 top centre-halves. We have one.
  • Also team who play 3 at the back have pace in their centre-halves. We have none.
  • Teams who play 3 at the back have wing-backs who offer both offensively and defensively and get up and down the line all game. We have none (fit).
Ronald - abandon 3 at the back please please please.

And teams who play 3 at the back have at least one, usually two, players comfortable at bringing the ball out and letting the midfield push up (surely the point of a back 3).

What's crazy to me is that Everton had been a full back driven team for so long. It was such a blessing to have Coleman and Baines for so many seasons. Now we are facing a real dilemma. Koeman wants all the width to be provided by the full backs, but Baines attacking mentality isn't the same as it used to be and Coleman is crocked for a few months yet.

We stocked our team with central midfielders, but we don't have anyone that can carry the ball downfield. He's essentially frozen out Mirallas and now we are faced with the choice of youth or Lennon. I don't think we can sustain ourselves by playing such slow football away from home. We need to have an option for counter attacking. DCL can't do it all on his own.

He obviously knew the score when he got off for his round of golf in Portugal.

I don't think he will be here by the end of the season either by his choice or the club's. I think the writing is on the wall after failing to bring in the striker and give him the tools he's asked for to do the job the board wants.

So, our playing style is slow and direct. We're the slowest team in the league, along with West Ham.

Great...
Saw this on Reddit aswell. Bit of a stupid graph tbh, this rs fan summed it up tbh-

"What a horrible horrible figure.

  1. Passes per sequence. A sequence, to my knowledge, can end due to a tackle from the opposition or a shot. So here we are seeing the "better" teams have more passes per sequences. This can mean their sequences simply last longer because they get to the box and shoot.

  2. The slight negative trend between the two variables is easy to explain (due to 1). You move up the pitch quicker when you are further away from the goal. If the movement carries on to the end, then it makes sense it goes slower. So it seems this entire figure is biased by "number of sequences ending in shot".

  3. Averaging kills this figure. Let's ignore point 1 and 2 above. If Liverpool have 2 passes in a sequence 50% of the time, and 5 passes 50% of the time (i.e. varied) it will come out in the same place as if it was 100% 3.5 passes per sequence. This is why any informative stats figure has variance/standard deviation on as well.
This is just information noise. Completely meaningless. Tarted up to be data science."

If DCL continues to trend upwards, I think we will be okay. It really boils down to us having a respectable record till January (Coleman and Co. coming back from injuries as well as a new striker). I don't see Koeman getting anywhere if he keeps rolling out these slow lineups.
