Ronald Koeman discussion

..it's more about systems than personnel for me. We are dreadful to watch, we have no creativity and we look defensively weak.

Not sure if the preference is a back 3 or back 4. In our team a back 3 suggests RK doesn't think any of his pairings are strong enough. A back 3 usually means attacking wing backs ahead who get around the back of the opposition defence and create (Moses and Alonso at Chelsea), but we go with Holgate and Baines because the two wide Centre Backs need protection. Effectively we play with 5 at the back.

Last night Schneiderlin had Vlasic, Rooney, Sigurdsson, and DCL ahead of him meaning he was exposed. When the ball is knocked forward we have no width to get around the back of defences so everything is ponderous. We attack through the strongest part of the opposition back four and come unstuck. Basics really.

Still can't get over just how bad we are.

He just HAS to go with something completely different against Manchester United. He has to.

This reminds me of Martin O'Neil at Villa, when he blew millions of bang average players.

At least Villa had a big man up front.

I don't think any player knows what their job is. Too many defensive players and we're still leaking goals. No outlet up front. Too many players are headgone which is ludicrous so early in season

Has looking increasingly clueless about what to do combined with the players quite obviously having at best lost confidence in what he's getting them to do, and at worst having almost downed tools on him

Think myself it's a matter of when not if he eventually has to be sacked now.

...I can't make any reasoning on what he's trying to do. I wouldn't sack him now, though. Not sure who we've got after United, but I reckon he's got another 3 or 4 league games to at least demonstrate that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Folk can't be expected to watch what's being served up at the moment. It is ante-football, no attacking or defensive strategy.

I think that's fair. Ten league games, then if we're still this turgid get rid

He's acknowledged his mistakes which is a start, and he's also right about the lack of passion etc.

However...

It does boil down to him at this stage.

He's trying the same tactics with as many different players as possible. It ain't gonna work.

We've been at our 'best' this season with two wingers. If he insists on a 4-2-3-1, then he has to play wingers.

If he wants to play a 3-5-2 (our best system imo) he has to set-out his side with specific instructions.

Stop giving Rooney a free role. Tell him he's a striker or he's not in the side.

Gylfi is the creator so lets build a team around him.

Task ONE midfielder with picking up the ball from the defence, not two or three.

Have ONE destroyer next to him sweeping up.

Play three cbs that have a mix of pace, ability on the ball and experience - Holgate, Jagielka, Keane.

And, ffs, play Kenny and never drop our £30m keeper for no need.

I hate to say it this early and I don't want to think we'd be so trigger happy, but if things go badly wrong at United, then I think Bournemouth will already be a huge game for Koeman's Everton tenure.

Nah mate

I mean, looking at the fixtures, I remember some on here saying in July watch out for the Koeman out shouts.

It's been three games and it's overboard to say it's a matter of time.

IF it carries on vs Utd without any renewed vigour, Bournemouth is a massive game (it already is) to get our season back on track.

IF this carries on, then he will be gone.

But he showed he can turn things around last year so he will be given the chance to do that again. His tactics have been awful in the last three games, mainly as he's trying to play a system that requires pace to work - yet the only two our-and-out quick players we have aren't even in the squad - and it's debatable as to whether they're good enough anyway, like.

..whilst the squad is work in progress (it needs more than one proper window to bring players in), I think the players acquired are a decent bunch. I just think they need organising into a team that are at least defensively sound. Coleman and Bolasie coming back should help but until then he should go back to basics. Sometimes I wonder if he's trying to be too clever.
