Ronald Koeman discussion

Starting to look like an awful lot of Huff and puff for Koeman if he only believes he can "improve" us from 11th to 7th after two years of work and all of the hullabaloo over the summer. Is all that redundant already?

We complain that the media exclude us from their big club narrative yet all grounds for such have now been removed by our own manager.

he takes no pride in Everton whatsoever. To think of the money he is picking up, and he doesn't even get involved in the nitty gritty of transfers. and he's not particularly good in his relations with the players (how many has he fallen out with). so basically, he picks up 7 million a year for the two hours coaching a day, plus the media duties at the weekend. its probably just as well Howard Kendall can't see this. Moyes got alot of stick on these boards, but for half the cash he did all what Koeman does, all the transfers, and brought in some amazing bargains. what bargains has Ronald brought in? you could argue he's actually blown about a hundred million that we won't see again

That's acting like we're the only club in the league wanting to improve though.

There's six sides that are far better than us. They were last year and now they have all improved again.

The last four league games now have proved that.

Koeman said all summer long that in his opinion IF we wanted to compete for the top four we needed two more players - a CB and a CF.

He didn't get either, and that's on the board.

Koeman is at fault for his negative tactics and maybe not knowing how to use the players he has just yet, but he's also spot on in saying we need time to click together.

But there's no need to say it is there? It's like last year all over again when he said Lukaku should move.

There's being honest and then there's being stupid. This is very much a case of being stupid. He can't hide behind not getting the players he wanted when the squad is clearly so unbalanced. If he really wanted another centre half then he shouldn't have sanctioned the spending of £80m on attacking midfielders. If he needed a striker to challenge the top 6 he should have gone further down his list. He said himself that it wasn't worth it but 7 goals in 10 games, and none in the last 4 1/2 says otherwise.

I find it quite baffling that with all the scouting networks we have, our striker list boiled down to Giroud and A loan for Costa, someone somewhere isn't doing their job correctly.

He was responding to Jose Mourinho's pre-match comments.

Those comments were purely Mourinho covering his own back.

By saying Everton should be a top four team (I agree, that should be our aspiration, but we're clearly not there yet), he's taking the pressure off his own back.

Should United win (as they did) it's another 'scalp'. Should they have dropped points, then it's not his fault as Everton are a great side etc etc.

That's all it was. Koeman maybe got lulled into the trap but I don't get the hysteria about him saying it. It doesn't mean the players are any less motivated. Koeman might well be saying 'prove me wrong'... He'd have got just as much stick had he said yeh we're realistically thinking we can get in the CL this season after our dire start (as RM used to get stick for it).

Koeman made it clear after the signing of Rooney that he still wanted a CB and CF, and another attacking player.

With Ross not involved for a plethora of reasons, you can't pretend that we as the fanbase - on the whole - didn't agree mate.

For the board to not go out and apply the finishing touches has meant that at the moment we're looking unbalanced - because we brought in players to have a focal point.

I agree it's also shortsighted from all involved (Walsh, Rk, the board) not to have a list of 4-5 players that we could fall back on and not suffer any genuine dip in quality.

It seemed our list was actually Giroud and Gimenez, with a late move for Benteke that saw Palace demanding £60m.

Why we left it so late is, again, on the board. Koeman publicly stated for six weeks that he wanted a striker...

The comments from Mourinho were standard programme note fodder. There was no sinister undertone, just a casual mention that we would be looking to get into the top 4. Its ridiculous that he reacted the way he did.

I'm not sure there's been any 'hysteria' has there? There have been questions from journalists, which I think is normal (and exactly what many fans have been asking for ages, for people to held to account at the club) and many fans have questioned why he felt the need to say it. I question it too.

Playing down expectations is fine, but laughing at them? Saying 'be realistic', as if it's been suggested that we should win all 4 competitions we're in rather than pick up 10 points more than we did last year to put ourselves in the picture? Saying it would only be realistic to finish in the same place as last season, despite now having a team made up entirely of his own players, and 5 of the 6 most expensive players we've ever bought at his disposal? That's not playing down expectations, it's an abdication of responsibility. It brings to mind Walter Smith's famous Rumplestiltskin quote of the 90s at a time when we're supposed to be entering a brave new era. It even goes directly against what the owner of the club has said our aims are - that's a hell of a game to be playing.

Once it all settles down and we go on a decent run and move back up the table, the majority of the fans will forget about talk of sacking him.

But what comes next after this mini-crisis is managed Toff? People are caught up in this short term argument of whether he will fix the current mess and turn a corner, and people who are behind the boss are correctly arguing about more time being needed. But whats after that?

What do you see in this guy that says he is going to achieve anything above any other manager since we last won a trophy? Honest question, as I don't see him doing anything really and that is why I'd like a change.

.....another discussion though is whether you'd trust them to make the right choice if we do change up.

I see Koeman as the man to get us back to the minimum level we should be achieving (top 7) after two crap years under a manager who although I liked him, was stubborn to the point of delusion.

While Koeman is no doubt a big stubborn moon-headed freak, I see him as being more adaptable. However, he needs to prove himself all over again with our fanbase now.

Okay, if we lose to the massive teams, we know where we stand. But we have to beat the smaller teams to give us an even-footing next time the big games come around.

Hopefully, he can get us to a final as well - or a very good cup run. Winning the thing is all that counts like.

That's fair enough, but I think that first part is where we would differ on our expectations of the type of new manager needed at the time. I wanted a better version of Martinez. Continued focus on attack but in a more organised manner and without the stubborness.

I didn't think it was such a huge job to tighten us up a bit and win more games that we had to go and get a manager who could do that and not much more. A safeish choice in a way.

So, would you slightly agree then with my opinion of him from day one that he will leave having given us not much more than that minimum level and it may be the next guy that takes advantage of what seems like a more solid club and, hopefully, structure?

I'm just a bit bored in a way with this, as I see it, interim period, and on top that I worry that even after this their idea of the boss to take us up a level will be way off.
