We still using glorious Burnley as an exemplar of how to play football?

A bit of reading here on Koemans ill fated spell at Valencia.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/apr/21/europeanfootball.sport

He lost Joaquín when he dropped him from the squad for arriving two minutes late to a team-talk, even though he had included Ever Banega, who'd been picked up by the police for drink-driving, prompting the winger to snipe: "Maybe next time I'll get pissed and run a red light instead."
And he lost Iván Helguera and more when he publicly berated the players for not being good enough, prompting Helguera to bemoan a "lack of respect".

A theme perhaps :coffee:

I hope Koeman is gone asap, but the problems lie deeper. We appear to be a rudderless ship. The protracted business to get Koeman & Walsh & Siggurdsen. We way overpaid for all 3. Totally indecisive. No options. Not smart at all. Still the same fiasco, just with more money.

I'm not sure how, as it's been explained to you numerous times, but it appears you're still missing the point about Burnley.

The issue is not that people think we should aspire to be Burnley, or that they are a better side than us. Quite the opposite in fact. Rather than your attempt at sarcasm proving anyone wrong, it actually hammers home the point you're trying to refute.

Burnley are an average side, everyone knows that. Your post about their game with Leeds proves that they're not great. All that goes to show is that you don't have to be a great side to get results against the top teams, because Burnley have done it and they can't even beat Leeds. It makes all the thousands of posts about us having to write off our recent run as inevitable completely invalid.

Top 6 will be unrealistic. It will be somewhere between, regelation and top 8, depending on the goal problem. i say 8th.

Well, we shouldn't have outlaid such an amount of money to not at least hit the same finish as last season, mate.

Top 6 isn't unrealistic. But, it's going to be extremely tough. We need to find a way of playing and some consistency pretty quickly, either way.

The huge difference between us and Burnley is that Burnley have kept - bar Keane - exactly the same squad as last season, added in a few extra faces here and there, but in the main that is a team that is well-drilled and knows exactly how the manager wants to set up.

We're clearly still learning - both Koeman and the players.

There is absolutely no indication that any of the players feel this way, though.

It's been a crap last four games but that's all it is - three of which have been against last season's top six.

So, can we all just chill?

You're chatting wham if you're comparing this situation now to his stint at Valencia a DECADE ago.

He's changed. The game's changed.

Four games on the bounce have been awful. If, after another four games, we haven't started to turn it around (ideally, four wins), then it may be time to panic.

So apart from losing what was widely recognised their best player, and their second top scorer, and now their injured goalkeeper - usually seen as their second best player - they've got exactly the same squad? What have the romans ever done for them?

The excuse doesn't wash mate. We could put out a balanced team of players that were here last year without any problem whatsoever. If the only problem is that the players haven't had time to gel then use the players you've got who don't have that issue. Easy. We both know that isn't the issue though, so there's no point putting it forward as an excuse.
