The thing is as entertaining as it could be, long periods of every match were taken up by endless, tedious passing around the pitch with no apparent objective. The problem with that ultra- possession style is that it is risk averse it's about retaining the initiative. It's why free kicks and corners were disliked as it risked surrendering the initiative. With such an avoidance of hazard ,I found it as boring as overly defensive styles.True the defensive record under martinez might have been poor but its all about feelings- how did you feel watching it? Were you not entertained? Silly boring defensive football should be put to pasture. While we're at it lets bring Howard back because he created goals galore- never mind they were for the opponent.
1 nil to the arsenal under George graham was the chant at the time. Graham built his team on a solid defence. Let's face it that arsenal team that won the league wasn't great to watch (apart from when they won it at anfieldIf they get a point or 3 I don't give a monkeys arse how they play.
Points is more important than anything else in football

Let's face it that arsenal team that won the league wasn't great to watch (apart from when they won it at anfield) but every player was disciplined in their position and knew what their jobs were. They were well coached and extremely difficult to beat. I bet arsenal fans would have taken those 'boring' 1-0 wins last season, over their 'footballing' side that disintegrated in the run in. Yes we want Everton to entertain where possible, but we also want Everton to win.
5 at the back today, Dave

Five at that back can become attacking if the mindset to attack is there. Sadly, I doubt it will. Three CBs and both FBs in our half all the 90 minutes virtually is the way it'll go.
I do. It's not a moot point either. Play well and get your rewards. There's no excuse to sit back (if thats what happens later). Stay solid at the back but offer a massive counter offensive also so they are wary of us. We should have been trounced at City only for poor finishing from them...we cant afford to ride our luck today.

Should have, but never. Why?? Because the manager knows how to setup a team. You want style over substance, the majority want points on the board
How did he do it last season with S'tons players? How can this team do it we don't have Baca players.

No mate, because City missed two pens and the GK played his best match ever. The set up was all wrong.
