The thing is as entertaining as it could be, long periods of every match were taken up by endless,tedious passing around the pitch with no apparent objective. The problem with that ultra- possession style is that it is risk averse it's about retaining the initiative. It's why free kicks and corners were disliked as it risked surrendering the initiative. With such an avoidance of hazard ,I found it as boring as overly defensive styles.
What we are heading towards now is a more pragmatic blend in which defence (involving the whole team) and attack are designed to achieve points on the table rather than vindicate ideological points and risk is controlled rather than avoided.
