Ronald Koeman discussion

No mate, because City missed two pens and the GK played his best match ever. The set up was all wrong.

How did he do it last season with S'tons players?

I don't see much difference. I just want Everton get points I don't care how they do it. To go to home grounds of Citch and Chelsea with offensive tactics in mind were suicidal. Koeman is pragmatic.

To win you have to be bold.

No more knives to gun fights. Moyes rightly got slaughtered for it.

The thing is as entertaining as it could be, long periods of every match were taken up by endless, tedious passing around the pitch with no apparent objective. The problem with that ultra- possession style is that it is risk averse it's about retaining the initiative. It's why free kicks and corners were disliked as it risked surrendering the initiative. With such an avoidance of hazard ,I found it as boring as overly defensive styles.
What we are heading towards now is a more pragmatic blend in which defence (involving the whole team) and attack are designed to achieve points on the table rather than vindicate ideological points and risk is controlled rather than avoided.
Agreed, remember the moans over our constant back passes and playing back to Howard- we'd have possession outside the opponents box and in seconds the ball would be back at howard's feet. Bit of rose-colored glasses calling the past 2 years entertaining.

So it was all to do with the setup and not the performance of the players? Just up thread you stated we have a lack of quality defenders.

Watch the City game again and see how many turnovers Bolasie and Barkley had. The problem wasn't the setup it was the fact that our transition players couldn't hold on to the ball and constantly gave up possession.

I think if you watched the city game you may have noticed Barkley was not on the pitch?

I want a draw rather than losing 3-6. Think the last manager had tried it before and did not work. What was the point of having 60%+ procession when your players just made back-pass and side-pass than back to the goalie and hoof it upfront? We ain't Baca.

You make the mistake of giving an example of poor execution of one version of a more offensive tactic.

It's nonsense. It's not a choice between a draw or a high score loss. That's a dumb argument.

I am saying I would prefer we were more in the game against all opposition, of course when the tactics don't work or aren't executed well they look bad. All kinds of tactics. Our bus parking vs City still gave them opportunities to win the game well for example. That is relying on percentages.....and we had enough of that with Moyes.

I think you are living in a daydream dude. What you said is not making sense either, purely empty words. Yes, the manager can do this can do that. You said "attempt to be more in the game against such opposition and not offer up possession so easily through such direct balls to the front" and get a result? If one team can execute everything ideally they will be at the top of PL not 6th.

What I can see is that Koeman uses different tactics if needed including parking the park if necessary.

Can't defend the decision to drop Joel tbh

Its a shocking move, was bad enough when Martinez did it for Howard but at least he was the senior player, the only quality Stek has is being from Holland, terrible keeper bought back in for someone who just kept a clean sheet
