Ronald Koeman discussion

If we scrape a flukey win against Swansea - in the manner of every game we have won this season - or heaven forbid, draw or lose, Koeman is in for a firestorm.

We need a complete reverse of the Chelsea result and a thumping 5-0 win ourselves, against the team at the bottom of the (so called) Premier League form table.

For me, this is still a Martinez team and I have seen not one ounce of difference under Koeman's tenure.

And now he's talking us down. It's beyond belief!

No excuse. No lost in translation. This is not a manager being caught out, or being selectively mis-quoted. He has made it clear that Lukaku's future lies elsewhere.

Eleven mediocre, uninspiring, fortuitous games in, I am beginning to think his may too.

If our manager cannot be relied upon to big us up, what hope have we got?

Cool story David, tell it again

I think Koeman should explain exactly what meant to say, now. In fact, I'm surprised that he hasn't done so.

If what he said has been interpreted correctly he should say so. He may have been making a different point without making
himself clear, and if so, tell us what he really meant.

Was he speaking English when he made those comments posted by Dutch Toffee or was it a translation?

I'm not trying to make excuses for him, it's just that it's such a stupid thing to say and he doesn't strike me as being stupid.

Hahahaha.

I am going to an audience with Ronald Koeman at the Titanic hotel on Wdnesday evening, and have been wondering if there will be any reaction over his views about Romelu ? Could be an interesting evening.

I haven't been to one of these events, but I imagine they would be mostly stage-managed? Darren Griffiths would be there I expect, and will be all happy-happy. I like him, mind.

I'm in the camp that are not happy with his comments, but if I was attending I wouldn't be inclined to raise it, even if it was possible to. Nor would I prefer Koeman to issue a clarification, and he certainly won't apologise, it would look forced and fake.

Probably best to let it pass, anything else would just add grist to the mill.

No I get what you mean mate. I just think a lot of people are using Shane Long as the prototype of what Koeman looks for in a striker, and keep saying that Lukaku isn't mobile enough or can't press enough. It's important to remember that that isn't necessarily the case at all.

Exactly. There ain't a manager on the planet who doesn't want a goal-scorer to lead their line.

Lukaku is never gonna be that 'workhorse' player, and that would take away from his natural game. SO, you need to have somebody to compliment him.

I think the hope was (and maybe still is) Deulofeu could be that player. However, he hasn't made the grade yet, limited playing time put aside.

I think it's worth reminding ourselves that Koeman signed Charlie Austin, who struggles to get out of bed in the morning and is less mobile than my nan, before we start making pronouncements about how he only wants turbo charged strikers who work like Denis stracqualursi on acid.

The mans not a fool, and i'm pretty sure he recognises talent when he sees it.

Sure you mean on acid?... that would not be a good enhancement.

He'd charge into the box, line up a shot, then notice that behind the goal, three of the crowd in a row are wearing coats, then two don't, then three do, then the one in the row in front continues the pattern so instead of 3,2,3,2 it goes 3,2,3 then down a row, which then continues with 3,2,3 then down a row a second time, though there may be a problem here because the third time this doesn't tie up, but using those rows and expanding it a little, it seems a large section of the crowd combine to make a really detailed picture of a cat riding on a flying carpet which actually when you think abo....

Why is everyone looking angry? It's just paranoia kicking in, ooh look at the grass, some of its really soft and its slightly different lengths, wonder what the longest bit is...

Oh yeah football, where did the ball go? And the crowd for that matter, and where did this field come from? and when did it turn night time?.. fk it I'm going home, I feel rough and I think my skin is flaking off.

Lets hope Koeman wants a striker on speed instead ;)

Sorry for another "knee-jerk" reaction lads but I've recently started to get increasingly worried.

Supporting Everton for me was always more than just results. It was doing it with class. Even during Moyesie's days we had players like Cahill that knew what it meant to play in Blue and and we had moments that I remember fondly, like our cup run and Gosling's goal agains the RS. More importantly, for the majority of that period we would fight and not roll over.

But I feel now that since I reckon Koeman isn't that invested in us long term his only priority will be results to elevate his stature. There's no fight from any of our players and I'm sure the future signings that Koeman brings in will just be there for a paycheck.

I'd love for Koeman to really "get us" and educate the players on what it means to put on that jersey, to teach them about our history, show them the teams of the 80s and even the dogs of war.

Yes Koeman will probably turn this patch around but I'm very fearful that our identity might slowly start chipping away.

As mentioned in another thread, Martinez did understand the importance (although unfortunately didn't get the balance right as he didn't understand the importance of a defence...)

Sorry lads, rant over!

That sounds like a pretty fair description of Stracqualursi even when he wasn't on acid to be honest.
