Ronald Koeman discussion

He's not an Everton man, but he's a decent enough manager. Who said he'll be here long term? He's here just to build a solid foundation for us to move forward and he's able to do that. I'd rather have someone brutally honest and demanding than another All Talk and No Action man who's snake oil salesman.

We were once a big club, now we're a club with big potential and I believe (as I always have and will) we're on a good road to wake it up. Koeman can talk whatever he wants as long he'll deliver us points and build a solid base for another manager :)

lol

And there's me thinking he was Rinus Michels re-incarnated given the guru status he had been accorded by some round these parts :pint2:
In his biography, Cruyff mentioned Koeman as having done a good job at Ajax, but it was obvious he was very much someone who kept the plate spinning - one put in motion by Cruyff himself.

He's not an innovator or great thinker about the game as fas as I can ascertain. He gets players to apply themselves and they accept it because of his stellar playing record.

This is what I dont get. Some people seem to think it'll be job done if he stays here two seasons and gets us top 7 and perhaps a EL spot. I think that's minumum for the contract he's on. I;d see that as failure if he does just deliver that.

We need top 7 this season and then next season the footy must be better and we have to be looking at running a CL spot close. You wont get the points required to do that though if you play a sterile game - and that's what he's shown us thus far.

van Gaal did get a 4th place finish and the cup playing a very sterile game:coffee:

Koeman knows this and Koeman knows that. The fellers achieved the square root of f.a. in footy management. He knows nothing.

Two things.

Firstly, saying he's achieved nothing in football is so laughingly untrue... is Google blocked in your house or something? He's won more as a manager than Klopp, for starters.

Secondly, coming from davek, the poster that actively defended Roberto Martinez all last season, when he was achieving far less than any of those Koeman's aims that you're now claiming is a bare minimum.... just WOW....:hayee:

With u-turns like that, have you ever considered running for political office, davek?

On a serious note - sadly we're a mid
Never in a million years would I compare that United team, which tried to control a game and not just react, with this Everton one. They are chalk and cheese.
I aggree to an extent. It's just a matter of style of defending. They defended (and weren't too much brave) with the ball, we're defending without the ball. Either way - it's a cautious football.

Of course I would like to see Everton dominating games as this is the benchmark of great teams, but you need to achieve it step by step. And every big team was built from the back and had a great defence. We experimented with a faster process in the last two years and it brought us two mid-table finishes.

For me, he's here to learn our players how to stop losing games and build a great defence. It will bring us points and that's what matters for Moshiri RIGHT NOW. His successor (Koeman's) will be someone more exciting, I think.

I don't think we should mistake honest and stupidity, his comments have been plain stupid.
I agree he is a decent manager, he isn't a great manager, he can't be as he wouldn't be with us.
I think the next couple of windows will tell us what he wants to build, if we continue to sign 27+yr players I think it shows his attention is to try and get a quick fix. If we see younger players being bought or introduced from the u21's, it shows he wants to build a lasting legacy. I hope he builds a lasting legacy....

Doesn't make sense ^^^

Martinez was being defended not because of PL form but because we stood a real chance of getting a cup last season. And the fact that in the past he'd presided over a season which 9/10 times would have got CL football made that support logical until the final unwinding of the relationship between players and himself after Easter last season.

Most people would see Koeman's cv and describe it as not being top notch. He's done nothing of note. Nothing. We acquired him because the jobs he cherishes aren't there for him - a direct result of 17 years as a manager with nothing more than a couple of meaningless Dutch titles to show for it.
