Agreed - the fee mentioned is ridiculous but small change for oil well FC, newly empowered by the uefa FFP ban failure.

Im not even sure he helps city out on the pitch massively (better keeper and defenders needed there, not another forward), but I don't think they are bothered about that - the financials, and what Messi does for city off the pitch are massive.
Oil money FC? How old are you? I usually hear that from kids on Twitter or Facebook. "ban failure" ? I think the words you were looking for were "completely exonerated". I concur with the rest of your post.
If Messi does sign for City, regardless of how well he does. It will be a huge boost for the whole league. TV viewing figures will increase, gates will be sold out and the status of the Premier league will rise even more. This is huge for the league not just City. He might not actually make us a better team, but the impact of his signing won't just be measured by what he does on the pitch. The knock on effect will benefit every club. This is a signing, which if it comes off could be monumental for the Prem and at the same time a disaster for La Liga. If any of the teams in red, Liverpool, the rags or Arsenal were in for him, the rhetoric from certain sections of the media would be completely different.

Nice of you to agree with most of my post. Fyi I am considerably older than those kids on twatter or facepage, not that I'm on those things.

No need to get all Emily bishop over being called oil well FC - that's where your clubs money's from mate, so I don't get why that upsets you?

Also, did uefa not fail in trying to ban city from European competition's due to ffp?

It's their failure, not city's, so again, I'm a little bit perplexed as to why that bothers you - and city being completely exonerated is pushing it, my bluemoon warbling buddy.

Personally, I was delighted that city's ban was chucked out and all power to you lot - ffp is a rigged deck for the big boys and stops clubs like Everton trying to gatecrash the party - I hope we can start spending like we had oil well money very soon (we kinda already have I suppose, sadly on garbage players in the main, but you get my point).

Also, I would like to see how Messi does in the PREM and the so called best league in the world - but im not sure how his signing benefits all the clubs in the league, bar city? Are you thinking the clubs can ask for increased TV money when negotiating due to having him play in our league?

Thats not a daft as you make it sound, if you think about it.

The thought came to me from reading his post, and it does make some sense ( even though I've hamfistedly put it across), and I just wanted to see what he thought the benefits would be?

Glad you kinda agree!

Well, if I was negotiating TV deals for the PL, and he was playing in it, I might mention it!

Sick and tired of people thinking they are funny and original when they say Oil FC. It's a derogatory name that has it's roots in xenophobia, it's lazy, and in some cases it's blatant racism. Not calling you a racist, just saying it how I and many other City fans see it. Why don't people call Chelsea Oil FC. Abramovich made his money in oil, yet it's only City with their brown owners who get that tag.
Saying UEFA failed to ban us, sounds like we were guilty but got away with it. A rhetoric that is prevalent in the media, no doubt with direction from certain clubs. An independent panel found us not guilty but people will still believe what their own prejudice and what the media tell them.
It benefits the league because everywhere he plays will sell out(covid permitting) even Liverpool have 2000 empty seats every home game. Higher profile league means that when the current tv deals are due to renew, the Prem will be in a stronger position. Messi coming benefits every club in the long run.

He'll have been and gone again before spectators are allowed back into grounds.

Bit touchy.

State sponsored club suit better? And everyone knows that City were cleared by CAS down to them choosing a few of the judges.

If it were us, (state sponsored), other than some dubious countries, I couldnt care less. Real Madrid are, in all but name.

You'd make a huge chunk of it back with shirt sales and sponsorship deals I reckon

Just as an aside, all 20 PL clubs collectively sell about as many replica shirts per year as would be required to pay back Messi's transfer fee. Dunno how many City could realistically expect to sell extra because of Messi, but it's not going to come close to paying off his transfer fee.
