Why would New York City signing a player mark the end for Manchester City?

It wouldn’t be NYC signing them, it would be City group inc, who would in turn parade him around their franchises. That’s not football even in a cynical, US owners, sports washing and TV rights before fans world

Who are City Group? I thought New York were signing him? And where are they "parading him"?

I'm just not seeing this mate. All I'm seeing is team x is going to buy someone and team y might loan them from him. Thats been happening for decades and nobody has cared. So too have owners having links or associations with multiple teams. Why would this specific point be the point that someone would turn off?

I mean have we seen what the RB franchise have been up too?

City group own Melbourne, New York, Manchester, Montevideo and a couple more cities.

My point is, if the group buy messi and he is thrown between the franchises Man City can no longer be taken seriously and a football club

Who are City-Group?

What do you mean by "thrown between franchises"? And why would this mean City are not taken seriously? Like are the RB franchiseor associated parties not a serious football club if they transfer players between different teams?

I'm struggling with the logic here mate. Buying, selling and loaning players is central to football. I'm bffled as to why it would not mean someone can't be considered a football club. Surely the opposite is true?

I think a club has to be an independent entity to be considered a club, for me the RB franchises are a joke, but to date at least they are selling players between teams, for City Group to sign a player to the franchise collection and pawn him(or her) out to more than one franchise removes the independent club element for me.

Ok. You're not really answering the questions I'm asking you.

So if New York signed Messi. Loaned him to 2 different teams (not Manchester City) who sit within the franchise over say the next 3-4 years, you think City lose all respect as a football club?

It seems like a mad position to take mate. People are doing a lot worse.

But it’s not New York City signing messi. It’s City Group

Oh ok. So an investment firm will hold his registration? Is that even legal? I'm pretty sure the football team will need to sign him mate.

I’m not 100% sure of the registration specifics, but either way for me, if messi or anyone else
Is loaned amongst the group, they are no longer football clubs.

Ok so it doesnt matter who actually buys them now. If two clubs who share an ownership conduct any kind of transfer together all of the group cease to be football clubs?

Do you not think this is somewhat of an adverse overreaction?

I mean your an intelligent and measured guy mate, this seems a but out of character for you to be fair!
