You think Pep will become the Barca youth team coach ?

No question, he has alluded to this on more than one occasion as well. He's a teacher so I expect him to do that, teach kids and nowhere better than at his home club

Difficult choices to be made as a consequence of phenomenally poor ones over last decade which means you require exceptional leadership on top of having the best interests of the club at heart - even during Laporta's first tenure, the instruments of his success were in selecting the right people to carry out their roles at the club. Only Laporta ticks those boxes, plus I am finally optimistic Messi can be convinced of renewing as he trusts Joan should his sporting project be compelling. Laporta is more a fan than a businessman

Restructure debt, cut dead weight/salaries, continue to build off La Masia as the bedrock of the club and build the brand back up from how tarnished it has gotten in past decade

7 months ago, Messi gave an interview to leave and we were still at the mercy of a corrupt Bartomeu driving the club off a cliff - I never imagined we'd get here much less this quickly but I am optimistic and that could only be possible at a club owned by it's members. Democracy triumphs, can't celebrate that enough even if tough work lies ahead

Proper basket case club. Imagine moshiri paying a company to slag off James or someone on social media.

Do you think it would be any different here if, say, Ed Woodward had to stand for re-election?

Does that mean a chance of Dutch Divvy getting canned?

I don't know where they'd find anyone willing to loan them the money to pay another manager a salary while seeing out Koeman's contract. Particularly if, by some miracle, they persuade Messi to stay. (Messi's salary is payable immediately, and the TV contract/sponsorship losses are realized down the road when they renew, so his salary is a strain on the budget.)

Laporta may be stuck with him for another year, unless he can work some fundraising magic.

Seems a strange fit this, only because usually the philosophy of a club flows from the top down and if Peps and the new manager’s views on football differ who will the president defer to. Plus will any manager want to manage that club knowing one of the greatest managers in world football is on the staff and he’ll always be compared to Pep.

This is how La Masia was founded by Cruyff in the first place decades ago, similar to Ajax academy - all youth levels play football in the same attacking style of play as a foundation for the 1st team

It's the Barca family model. Even now, many great youth team coaches exist at Barca. It's where Pep started, Luis Enrique, Tito and many others. The club has their legends return - Puyol & Valdes are returning to assume positions and soon enough Xavi will too

Bit early for the new kits thread so where better to put this than here. Nike seem to have lost their mind for the coming season. I've put Atletico's in here as well to show it's not only Barca who are getting odd treatment (although IMO Barca's is much worse).

It’s quite one thing to have youth coaches who later become great managers. it’s quite a different matter to have one of the all times greats come back to coach the youth teams, I take the point about Puyol, Valdez and Xavi returning, but they’re returning at the start of the managerial careers with the hope of becoming greats. I’m no so sure the manager of Barca would much like the pressure of Pep being on the coaching staff. Personally if he does return as a youth team coach I can’t see it being at Barca.

Pep has already said it more than once, he sees himself back at La Masia teaching kids - not the 1st team. And the thing with Pep, he is precise with his words in interviews for a reason - he means what he says

I bow to your superior knowledge of all things Barca mate, myself I’m sceptical about it happening, what do you think would happen if the manager said he didn’t want Pep there especially if said manager was being successful would they insist on it even with the possibility of the manager threatening to resign? I suppose it’s a bit like when Shankly wanted to visit Melwood after he retired and Liverpool wouldn’t allow it for fear of his presence undermining Paisley in the players eyes.

Time will tell. I can see Pep as an executive coach supporting the 1st team coach whilst concentrating on the whole set up from the youth upwards. It will require careful managing as having Pep around is a large iconic figure to have at the club to ensure he doesn't destabilise who is the first team coach.

Could see it at City as well, but as you point out, Guardiola is fairly honest about what his plan for himself is. I don't see it happening until City win a CL though which could happen at any time,

I know the club well but I don't profess to know it better than anyone else. WRT Pep, for me, there is no doubt - he will eventually return to the club in some capacity. He has to anyway, no one is more blaugrana than him and this is his home
