Is that Zenden interviewing him...!?

One of the most impressive things for me is his tactical variance, he mixes things up during games, opposition and when not in good patch of form.

To be fair that's what every manager should do; like turning to a back 3 against a team with two strikers (Watford) is one of the most basic tactical decisions in the game. Martinez however wasn't tactical.

The thing that really impressed me though was that Sothampton were gash up to the new year and actually looked they would get sucked into a relegation battle, he changed it completely tactically and they were the form team in the second half of the season, getting Europe.

Went 352 I believe. Quite a turn around and no mistake.

Well, ive had some time to reflect and im still not really sure how I feel, hes a decent manager who has done well at Southampton and in the past at several clubs in Holland, I will go into that shortly. I just want to take a quick look at his Southampton record a bit closer.

So his first season, he took over from Pochs side that had finished 8th, piss poor in both cups and then had to contend with half his side being sold, the majority of their better players from the previous season, in total 7 players were sold for actual money and various loans and so on, the sales totalled roughly 92m. He then purchased 7 players for a total of roughly 66m.

So Saints(im writing Saints from now on cos its shorter) finished 8th again and still did piss poor in the cups.

In his 2nd season they sold 2 players for 40m and bought 8 players for roughly 41m, finished 7th and still did piss poor in the cups.

To expand on the rest of his career :

1997–1998 Netherlands (assistant)
1998–2000 Barcelona (assistant)
2000–2001 Vitesse
2001–2005 Ajax
2005–2006 Benfica
2006–2007 PSV Eindhoven
2007–2008 Valencia
2009 AZ
2011–2014 Feyenoord
2014– Southampton

Ajax
Benfica
PSV
Valencia
AZ Alkmaar
Now dont get me wrong, ive read a few things about him that impress me, hes not afraid to change his tactics, he knows the value of defence and he takes no crap from any of the players, its his way or else, which a few of the lads could do with at the moment to be quite honest.

Now I have a few times called him the Dutch David Moyes, hes the same age as Moyes and as you can see above hes won a lot more, it could be said that Moyes did stay with us for 11 years and whilst we got close a few times we clearly didnt win a pot, same thing with Martinez really, so near and so far from both. So while Koeman has certainly won shineys abroad, his Premiership record, is above average and hes shown no "intent" in any of the domestic cups.

Which brings me to his Southampton record, the highlight would surely be able to get teams firing while having an unstable player base. Something you would assume we are not really planning on? I would assume the plan should be to build a team and when possible, retain our better players.

So basically im not quite sure to make of it all, his record screams meh, his "best years" were well over 10 years ago, im not saying hes finished and im certainly not dismissing the work hes done at Southampton, but colour me totally underwhelmed, currently.

Next we need to get a DoF in and sort the staff, then the playing side, all in all should be a very interesting summer and hopefully any doubts I may currently have are long gone before October.

You're one fat hippo and the only thing you need to focus on analysing is your BMI and calorific intake that causes it.
