Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

Southampton local news is saying that Everton have been refused permission by SFC to talk to Koeman and that no discussions have taken place. Sky Sports jumped the gun here?
Does Southampton's local press have their finger on the pulse anymore than BBC Merseyside or the Echo do?

Again?

Martinez?

Who'd of been your choice? Baring in mind Dave was saying stick with Martinez unless we could get Jose or someone of that ilk.

We needed a change. Koeman's an improvement over what we had so I can't be too upset. I'd just hoped we could bring in a proven winner, and that's what we were told we were looking for, and he isn't that.

I don't think he'll be here too long to be honest (If he does come in, which isn't confirmed yet)

He'll come here for a bit, sort us out and then move on elsewhere

2 Years max IMO

The new manager can then pick up where he leaves off, and probably have some success to boot

I can live with that

We're playing the long game now we've actual money behind us
Agree that one way or another he's unlikely to be here as long as Martinez was, if he even joins of course!

If we were playing the long game I'd prefer us to get a manager who had a vision and plan to stay the whole course but guess I'm just old fashioned as it doesn't seem very common these days.

Who mate?

You know the names as much as I do. One's staying at Seville, one's gone to Chelsea, one's gone to man utd, another couple have just left man city and chile, few more are managing Germany, atletico and juve.

Big names.

We were told we could get one, we couldn't. It's a shame. Dave called it spot on.

The man has a presence about him I'll give him that but for what he's achieved so far and the wages being bandied about it's absolutely ridiculous.

We haven't even appointed a DoF yet either and depending on his responsibilities that should come first imo. Coaches come and go but the DoF is a long term appointment as he's the one with the long term plan for the playing side of the club as a whole. The appointment of Koeman would tell me that the impending DoF will be tasked with creating a defence first mentality through the academy/first team long term, and while that's a good idea in general, it's not going to get the crowd off its arse and imo in the modern PL era it's a mid table strategy unless you're buying the best attacking players in the world, which we can't attract or even afford.

The appointment of Koeman makes me think Moshiri has no plans for anything other than competing for a CL place in the short term and if we have a good season, maybe a shot at the title. I don't see sustained title pushes anytime soon. If we do well and are recognised as a real long term PL force well be able to attract WC players in the future to compliment our defensive approach. It all sounds very Mourinho, boring as sin but effective.

The manager after Koeman would be that manager IMO

Koeman rights the ship, the new manager comes in and takes it forward (Hopefully it'll be Loew after the 2018 World Cup)

I really hate it when we agree.

It's the going rate.

As it stands in order of managers of salary (in PL):

- Morurinho
- Pep
- Wenger
- Conte
- Klopp
- Poch

£7mil would put him about on par with Poch, maybe just less. If we want to be back in the top 7, we need to pay the money...

Or to put it another way:

- one of the best managers in the world, won the CL
- another one of the best managers in the world, won the CL
- one of the best managers ever, a guarantee of CL football
- one of the best managers in the world
- apparently he is Jesus and they are desperate
- got Spurs to within three games of winning the league

Koeman's achievements do not measure up to any of them.

7 Million a Year for someone that has achieved nothing is a joke really.

He doesn't really stand out as the guy that is going to take us to the next level. But then again he bloke sacked by Greece has just won the League

But we finished 11th for two seasons running, and we're taking a manager from the club who finished 6th and 7th in those two seasons.

We aren't going to get much better...
