I wanted Emery and it is a real shame we couldn't get him because he is top class. But Koeman is a very good appointment considering how utterly appalling we've been the last two year. The absolute shambles that Bill and Roberto especially had turned us into completely negated our ability to attract a really top drawer name. And that is a shame.

Nonetheless I think he is a good choice and hopefully he gets the right players in to fire us on next season.

He's a huge improvement on Moyes and Martinez.

Should never be used as a reason to employ a Manager.

Experience in Europe at the highest level. Southampton sold every Tom, [Poor language removed] and Harry and he still got results and brought in some very good players. We have better players at Everton, I'm sure he'll bring them on another level and add quality with Moshi's backing. From the outside looking in, he's a very good addition to the club

Hasn't won anything in the best part of a decade, and even that was a mickey mouse shield.
I don't think he qualifies as a Manager that is a winner does he?

I'm happy to admit that a Koeman type appointment may be our lot at the present time as the better Managers won't touch use (assuming Emery has turned us down), but he isn't a winner Manager.

There's no way we were going to go from Roberto Martinez to Jose Mourinho and neither, truly Unai Emery (no matter how much Moshiri threw at him) who has won his 3rd eufa cup in a row and Champions League with Sevilla next season. Emery was my first choice. Disappointing not to get him in. But I think Koeman will steady us and get us competing, it's going to be very hard to get top four next season but I think we'll be in amongst it, a cup is a must also. Build up our profile steadily, if Koeman can't get us top four and beyond we look for someone better. We have the right people in charge. We'll upgrade from now on
Agree with everything you've said. Can I just add making going the game a pleasurable experience again. Talking sense and honesty to the media and telling players what they need to do to improve and enhance their careers, instead of putting all players on a pedestal and them believing they've already attained greatness.

I think it's safe to say that if anything has been "leaked" about Koeman and Everton, it's neither Saints or Efcs doing, but his super agent??

7m a year wage, transfer budget of 100m plus potential sale of Lukaku. (165m). ... As if Everton are going to leak that.

It's not the best benchmark against those two but he is a better manager so...
His first season was impressive given how Southampton sold their best players.
His record against the top clubs last season was excellent. The man knows how to win games. That's what I would regard as a winning manager that in the real world, we can get.
He's not mourinho or emery but given how much damage Kenwright and Martinez have caused to our reputation I think that's the best we can get at this time. And that's very good news given how awful the last two seasons have been.

Martinez is a Championship Manager and nobody is touching Moyes with the proverbial pole.
Does that make Koeman a top "winner" Manager?

Agree with all this.
My initial response was to you saying he was a winner as a player (undoubtedly) and as a Manager ( which he is not yet/if ever) ;)

I would have picked Koeman over Mourhino, Pellegrini and Emery so I'm happy with this appointment.

It depends on your ideas about pathway to success and patience but always wanted someone in who would be prepared to build and develop. Like it or not football is a game of balance, the best attack and defence win the league every year when they closest to the best balance between these two aspects, it's often that simple.

Koeman is pragmatic coach he recognises this and the balance in his sides is very good. He's not rigid tactically, he has bad patches in the PL and rebounded spectacularly to bring success in a context. He's coached winning sides again in a context, he's used refined tools, he's used rough tools, coached, scouted and developed in his managerial career. He has been successful at big clubs with expectation and unfashionable clubs. He has a really broad skill set.

Has he ever been given the tools I.e. Finance, infrastructure, talented squad and talented youth team players to really challenge the elite, this is his opportunity.

He's going to be successfull, not PL in his first year but we should be attacking the CL spots next season, that's success for me, next season.

We'll just have to wait and see mate but I am optimistic. Maybe that's the relief of seeing anyone but Martinez in the dugout next season. Bring on August!

I think it's ironic that Koeman is said to be the logical choice to succeed Wenger, yet it's an ex Arsenal man, now at Everton, who looks like getting him. Almost makes you wonder if Mr M is doing it just to spite Mr U!

Good on him whether it's the case or not ;)

Just the fact hes a competent coach will push us several places higher with this squad, add in a good transfer kitty and we should do quite well
